#158 Welcome to Fedora, @dangoncalves
Opened 2 years ago by hhlp. Modified 3 months ago

Hello @dangoncalves ! Welcome to Fedora!

Before we begin, please subscribe to the Fedora join mailing list at
fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org
.
We use this list for general discussion, and it is also where the community
shares tasks that need help.

Then, could you please introduce yourself (preferably on the list) so that the
community can get to know you? (interests, skills, anything you wish to say
about yourself really)

In the meantime, these links would be a good read. They tell you what the
Free/Open Source community is about, and then they'll introduce you to Fedora:
what Fedora is all about, and what we do, and of course, how we do it:

If you have any questions at all, please ask! We'll use this ticket to keep in
touch! :)

Hello @alciregi !

Thanks for taking good care of my onboarding. I was a little busy last time, but I already contributed to the rust-sig.
I am considering becoming a package maintainer. I understand that I need to open an issue on https://pagure.io/packager-sponsors. But will the sponsor be a co-maintainer of the package I want to maintain or can it be any packager?

Nice to hear that.
Actually I don't know how packagers sponsorship works. Maybe @ankursinha can be more helpful.
However I think a successful path could be: introduce yourself to the devel mailing list (if you haven't already done); submit the package for a review, once accepted look for a sponsor (maybe someone that already know you, from the rust-sig maybe). I've read something about https://pagure.io/packager-sponsors in the devel list in the last days, and this way to look for sponsors didn't work very well and should be revised, as far as I understood.

There are a few ways of getting sponsored, take a look at this page:

https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/package-maintainers/How_to_Get_Sponsored_into_the_Packager_Group/

the simplest way is to submit a few new packages and do a few reviews to show that you know what needs to be done, and a sponsor will happily add you to the group :)

@dangoncalves

This is just a progress checkout ticket
