#124 Welcome @petebuffon
Closed: C: Complete 2 years ago by alciregi. Opened 2 years ago by andilinux.

Hello @petebuffon ! Welcome to Fedora!

Before we begin, please subscribe to the Fedora join mailing list at
We use this list for general discussion, and it is also where the community
shares tasks that need help.

Then, could you please introduce yourself (preferably on the list) so that the
community can get to know you? (interests, skills, anything you wish to say
about yourself really)

In the meantime, these links would be a good read. They tell you what the
Free/Open Source community is about, and then they'll introduce you to Fedora:
what Fedora is all about, and what we do, and of course, how we do it:

If you have any questions at all, please ask! We'll use this ticket to keep in
touch! :)

Hey there,

We really hope that you were able to find something in the community that piques your interest (and if you were, we would absolutely love to hear about it). If not, please feel free to reach out to us with your questions/concerns and we would be glad to help you out. :-)

I have seen you active in the Infrastructure channel and hence I have added the said label. While you're at it, please go ahead and drop your introduction here as a comment under this ticket.

Hi my name is Pete,

I am looking to change careers from winemaking into system administration/DevOps and I would like to gain some real world experience by joining the Fedora Infrastructure team. I use Fedora every day and it would be great to give back to the community.

My skills right now include Linux System Administration, Python, containers, VMs, and a little bit of infrastructure as code. I mess around with my homelab, and am currently taking online courses as well as studying for the RHCSA.

I would like to learn about maintaining and building systems, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and containers. I also have interests in security, cryptography, and web development.

I'm looking to contribute 4 - 8 hours a week.

Hey @petebuffon,

Hope you are doing well and enjoyed your time with us at Nest With Fedora 2021. Should you have missed out on our talks, a recording of those would be made available very soon on our official YouTube channel. I reach out to know if you have found something exciting to contribute to and be a part of in the community. With that, I am marking this ticket with its second progress check.

Hello @petebuffon,

I have seen you active in the infrastructure channels and we like to think that you now have an understanding of how the community is organized, how you can contribute and be a part of it. We would now like to mark this ticket with the "I am Fedora" label and close this ticket to complete your welcome. What do you think?

Ugh I keep forgetting to respond!
Yes I am good. I have been working on the infra side of things.

Nice to hear that.
Do you think we can close this ticket?

Yes go ahead :)
If I'm a little curious about other sectors in Fedora besides infra, can someone provide some links please?

You know, Fedora is an huge project. You can find documents about various teams on https://docs.fedoraproject.org, but the world is not limited there. We have discussion channels (i.e. https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/, chats, mailing lists), issue trackers (here on pagure, soon on gitlab), source code repositories (some teams use also github).
Eh :-) you can explore a lot of things.
