#109 Welcome to Fedora @akanshakumari!
Closed: C: Incomplete 2 years ago by t0xic0der. Opened 2 years ago by t0xic0der.

Hello @akanshakumari! Welcome to Fedora!

Before we begin, please subscribe to the Fedora join mailing list at
fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org
.
We use this list for general discussion, and it is also where the community
shares tasks that need help.

Then, could you please introduce yourself (preferably on the list) so that the
community can get to know you? (interests, skills, anything you wish to say
about yourself really)

In the meantime, these links would be a good read. They tell you what the
Free/Open Source community is about, and then they'll introduce you to Fedora:
what Fedora is all about, and what we do, and of course, how we do it:

If you have any questions at all, please ask! We'll use this ticket to keep in
touch! :)

@t0xic0der I went through the links, It's quite overwhelming .
Where do I need to introduce myself?
Also, I'm still not much clear with how to start and what to do next.

Can you please guide me.

Hi @akanshakumari,

The above links speak about the community's vision, how the community is
organized, what conduct rules we hold up to, how we set our objectives and
function to their completion and much more. I would suggest you take some
time and go through them slowly as understanding these are quite important
and would help you become a valuable contributor in due course of time.

The places you should introduce yourself are preferably the following.

  1. Devel mailing list (for it is the most active one and you are likely
to meet a lot of new folks out there)

https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.org/
2. Fedora Join mailing list

https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org/
3. As a comment to this ticket
4. As a message to the Join SIG channel

The way I see it, you have already started and joining the @joinfedora
channel on Telegram was your first step :). From then on, the only things
you need to do are exploring the subprojects and SIGs we have in Fedora to
see if you can be of help in them and to interact with folks and assist
them wherever you see fit. Exploration can be a daunting experience I know
but once you drop your introduction, you would be swiftly redirected by our
friendly community members to the parts of Fedora, that can best use your
skills.

As always, we appreciate questions/doubts so feel free to ask more of those
if you get stuck somewhere or are in need of help.

Thanks and regards,
Akashdeep

Hi @t0xic0der ,
Thanks for dropping by.

I have been observing for a while now. but haven't found anything yet to work on.
i feel a bit lost and unsure about where exactly to look for. it would be of great help if you could help me with that.

Looking forward to make use of my skill to help and grow with the community.

Understandable, @akanshakumari.

Please take a look at https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Subprojects to find subprojects that you might have interest in. Once you find something, please let us know so that we can very specifically guide you according to the subproject of your interest.

I'm not sure how up to date that wiki page is. Best to see it in conjunction with the orgchart that was recently updated:

https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/project/orgchart/

Hey there,

We really hope that you were able to find something in the community that piques your interest (and if you were, we would absolutely love to hear about it). If not, please feel free to reach out to us with your questions/concerns and we would be glad to help you out. :-)

Hi @t0xic0der,
I did find interest in CommOps. But due to some personal reasons, I will not be able to contribute to it in near future. I apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused. Let me know the procedure that I need to follow to opt out (if any).

I'm thankful for all the guidance and support provided throughout.

Hi @akanshakumari,

I understand that finding time to contribute can be tricky among everything else and it is totally fine. We would now go ahead and close this ticket but please feel free to come back at a later point in time, if you wish to resume contributing.
