#95 Git classroom session for GCI students
Closed: Invalid 5 years ago by ankursinha. Opened 5 years ago by ankursinha.

@siddharthvipul1 would like to organise a Git classroom session around October 30th.

Q. Is this a general classroom session or one aimed at GCI students? If it's aimed at GCI students, we won't advertise it as a general classroom session. We'll make it a special session, and it'll ensure that it will be focussed on the needs of the the GCI students only.

This particular session is aimed at GCI students.

If it's aimed at GCI students, we won't advertise it as a general classroom session.

As the topic is pretty generic, we thought of keeping it open for all.

We'll make it a special session, and it'll ensure that it will be focussed on the needs of the the GCI students only.

I am okay with this,
@sumantrom @bex @amitosh: any thoughts??

by the time we decide our participant, here is the all the basics GCI students will need,
git:
- config
- clone
- add
- commit
- push
- pull
- checkout & branch

Let me know if I am missing something, we can definitely add more basics.

Don't forget to fork

I expect the idea is to give them an introduction to git, and then walk them through the PR workflow? We did that for git 101. It's quite a nice session for beginners. We'd set up a dummy repo on Github and asked them all to open PRs too: https://github.com/sanjayankur31/Fedora-classroom-Git-101

I would like to call for a vote as to whe we are seeing this in action . Here's a when is good, can you guys please vote?

Hello! Do we have a time yet? I expect it's most important for the students to fill this out, no?

darn, missed this comment and didn't realise it's been so late.
I don't know what other mentors think, but after seeing GCI's interface where there is place to comment, submit tasks, verify etc, the requirement of git/GitHub has decreased. We don't have a list of students that we can ping and request/ask to join the classroom (other than those who have claimed tasks).
That being said, we should go ahead with a classroom anyway (we can share the link later)
@sumantrom, need your help here to get this going.
The result of whenisgood, when is good?
also, target audience??

I think we should still do this, if possible, as we can use it for GSoC and other contribution opportunities, especially if we use Pagure as the example.

We're quite happy to facilitate this, but at the moment, there isn't enough info here for us to do anything. We need, at least:

  • target audience
  • date/time of session
  • an instructor

We're booked until late Feb with classroom sessions each week already, so this will have to be done after they finish (or in the next round of sessions that we organise, if that works).

Pardon my late reply and comments otherwise but:
1) GCI ???

2) @ankursinha I think doing a Git 101 (on/with pagure) and maybe even using this as a stepping stone maybe to a Git 102/201 where we have a class on how collaborating between repos and platform hosts would be a great logic to create/foster.

I'm just looking around

Google code in , https://codein.withgoogle.com/

this year Fedora has an awesome participation mostly on IoT topics

@siddharthvipul1 @sumantrom : is this still required or should I close the ticket?

This is great content even if GCI is over. Do we still have a teacher?

I am closing this ticket due to inactivity. We will organise a general session on Git in the next iteration of sessions.
