Hello there,

You're receiving this e-mail because you had expressed an interest in being part of the Fedora Join SIG[0] to help improve the on-boarding experience that new users looking to join the Fedora community have.

The SIG hasn't been as active as we'd have liked, to be perfectly honest - everyone's been busy with things. However, this has not meant that we've been stagnant. We've been working on setting up the required infrastructure and so on so that we can start working on the actual goal of engaging prospective contributors as soon as possible.

We now have an FAS group[1]. The group is for existing Fedora contributors that are willing to volunteer their time helping newbies. It is mandatory for people in this FAS group to subscribe and remain active on the fedora join mailing list[2], since it is our primary channel of communication with prospective contributors. It'll be nice if contributors would also hang out on #fedora-join on the IRC, but that is completely up to volunteers.

We also have a trac instance set up now[3] - this is where tickets for various things - ideas, events, improvements, and so on are to be filed. Since we want to keep the mailing list limited to communication between community members and new folks, we have decided to send e-mail notifications from the trac only to the members of the fedora-join FAS group.

We're now working on a few things already - the most important one is to increase the visibility of the group (make some noise!) to make people in and out of the community aware of our purpose and existence. This would encourage other community members to join us and help, and it would encourage people to come speak to us.

If you'd like to continue helping, please apply to the FAS group, or e-mail me and I'll add you - and of course, please subscribe to the mailing list. At some point of time, we'll request the contributors to introduce themselves on the mailing list - it's another trac ticket in the making :)
