#41 Tracker ticket for temporary group additions
Closed: Fixed 4 years ago by alciregi. Opened 6 years ago by ankursinha.

To enable new folks that are not yet sponsored to a FAS group to be able to edit the wiki, we will temporarily add them to the Fedora Join FAS group. Once they've been sponsored to other groups and no longer need the fedora-join membership, we shall remove them.

  • The individuals are required to introduce themselves on the Fedora Join mailing list.
  • Each temporary addition will require a new ticket
  • Every week or two we shall check if the membership is required, and if the individual is active etc.
  • This ticket works as a tracker ticket

Can we revive this ticket?
Sometime new people need to simply edit the wiki (just as a starting point).
Or the new comer is excited at the idea to start to be part of the community, and contributing. But signing to FAS is not sufficient even to edit the wiki. And people immediately encounters something that could feel like an obstacle.

Generally, filing a ticket on the infra issue tracker asking to be added to wikiedit group could be sufficient. (But can you file issues on pagure if you are not CLA+1?).
But infra team has many tickets in his queue. Probably many critical ones. And a simple task like adding a user to a group, could require time. In the meanwhile the newcomer has to wait.

At the same time, if infra team has one less job to do, could be good for them.

@ankursinha asks: who should we speak to about taking over the wikiedit thing? Infra or mindshare?

We'll have to formalise the requirements a bit. Something like:

requesters must:

  • introduce themselves on the join ML
  • will be added to the FAS group for a fixed period (similar to how infra does it): 3 months enough for them to join other groups?

Additionally, their individual tracker tickets will be pinged periodically (every 4 weeks?) to see if we can help them in any way.

The added advantage of taking this over from infra is that it also helps us channel new folks to the join sig.

Filed this. Let's discuss it there, since it requires discussion with more than just the Join SIG.
