So, it was pointed out that Signal is a better, and probably more secure platform than Telegram, whose security bits are not based on a peer-reviewed platform. Here's the info I could find:
I can't find any information on setting up supergroups, and an IRC bridge either. So, this needs to be researched and worked on.
@jflory7 - any initial comments?
The Signal app is on FlatHub, by the way. Installing it now.
I read this ticket as suggesting dropping the Telegram bridge in favor of Signal.
I have no issues with Signal but I do not know of any software to offer an IRC bridge in the same way we can with Telegram. This functionality may exist in a bot somewhere, but I do not know of it. I am also not a Signal user so I cannot offer any support or resources to creating and running a bridge.
From my POV, the motivation behind the Telegram and IRC bridges was because we had a significant community of Fedora users and contributors on Telegram. The bridge made the IRC side of conversations more accessible for contributors and now users, with the Join SIG group. There is a large community in the Fedora Telegram supergroup (1500+ members) and Fedora Telegram news channel (650+ subscribers).
Before investing the time and resources into Signal, I would look for community. Are there large communities / groups of Fedora users on Signal? Do we believe we will attract a significant amount of interest and engagement by offering a Signal bridge, if the capability exists? I am generally against the idea of running bridges to run bridges, unless there is enough data to suggest it will help with engagement or participation.
Yeh, I have similar concerns. I'd really like to use a more secure platform (if it's proven to be more secure) but signal is hardly used at the moment, and therefore, there isn't a community around it at all. I can't even find enough docs to create public "super groups" on it at the moment.
Let's leave this open, and if a community does develop around Signal, we can revisit it later? It doesn't make sense at the moment.

Shall we close this ticket as "Insufficient data"? I don't think Signal will provide the functionality to integrate with other platforms, as Telegram does.
