#27 Restructure Join SIG wiki
Closed: Fixed 6 years ago Opened 6 years ago by dhanesh95.

Currently, the SIG wiki page is not in it's best shape. I had a discussion with @ankursinha on IRC and here are the sections of the wiki that we believe should be improved:

  1. The To Do section mentions a list of actions to be performed which are related to the initialization of the SIG. Those can be safely removed and replaced with a simple link to pagure issues.

  2. The IRC meetings section only points to one meeting that happened 3 years ago. This can also be replaced by https://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/sresults/?group_id=fedora-join&type=team

  3. Add a section about how new contributors can get started. New contributors here can be people who are new to the community or people who are seasoned contributors but are new to the SIG. So we can divide "How to get started" in two sub-sections but it's not completely necessary.

  4. A section on how to manage meetings. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Meeting:Guide (Optional)

There could be more things that can be added. The CommOps wiki page is an excellent example that we can refer to as a template.

Still looking for help with this issue? If so, I would like to give it a shot. At least to try a section and see how it goes.

Sure, go ahead @briangribble :)

I created a draft page with some changes.

Still working on the meeting minutes. Let me know if I'm going in the wrong direction with these changes.

Thanks,

Brian

Looks brilliant. Thanks @briangribble!

Here's are some notes that we can use for a template agenda: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Meeting:Guide

How about a few recurring actions to ensure that the meeting wiki pages are kept up to date?

  • meeting chair to send out logs
  • meeting chair update wiki with logs
  • meeting chair to prepare next meeting agenda?

I created a "Next Meeting" page that will have the information for the next meeting. Obvious, right?

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_Join_SIG/Next_Meeting

I also made a template where you copy the "Syntax" section, paste in the Next_Meeting page, populate the fields, and save. I got the idea from the CommOps page.

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Template:Fedora_Join_Meeting

Let me know if I missed anything, you have other ideas, or something needs to be redone.

Brian

Some more updates. Added the past meetings page.

What's this one for? Links to past meetings? It's similar to the next meetings page right now.

Looks awesome! Updating it for tomorrow's meeting now!

I moved the links to the past meetings back to the front page.

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DRAFT_Fedora_Join_SIG

That Meetings page can be deleted but I am not able to.

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_Join_SIG/Meetings

Thanks,

Brian

I moved the Meetings page to Past_Meetings. The Meetings page and the directories (2015, 2016, 2017) can be removed.

These are all the page I have edited or added.

Still need something for "Join Us". Ways to contribute or something?

Other ideas:

  • I was thinking of a banner or logo-type design (from the Design team maybe).
  • Links back to member contributions (maybe just the latest blog post). This would also work with a projects/Join Us section. I think you are testing video chats for the classroom project.
  • A TL;DR, elevator pitch of your mission. The first paragraph seems pretty long.
  • I don't think this SIG is in the main category. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Category:SIGs

Great too! The older pages can be archived and we can use these from now on.

This looks fun, althought I don't know what else we can put up. We do various things, and maybe pointing folks to pagure would be nicer than keeping a wiki log?

Still need something for "Join Us". Ways to contribute or something?

+1, but this is the tricky bit. We sort of divide folks into two categories:

  • existing community contributors that can help us
  • newbies that need help

So, "Join us" could either mean "Join the SIG and help us help newbies", or it could mean "Join Fedora and get started". Maybe we should have two sections just to make the distinction clearer?

Other ideas:

I was thinking of a banner or logo-type design (from the Design team maybe).

+1 been on the pipeline forever. Would make the SIG more marketable.

How about "current tasks" and links to pagure? Same as what I said above - wiki pages that need constant updating tend to go out of date really quick :(

A TL;DR, elevator pitch of your mission. The first paragraph seems pretty long.

Gotta work on this - would you like to take a shot at it maybe? ;)

I don't think this SIG is in the main category. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Category:SIGs

Yikes - I missed that one when we'd made the group. I'll add it.

Thanks,
Brian

Thanks for working on all of this, Brian - really sorry it took us so much time to get back to you.

Cheers!

Sorry, I missed out on this. This looks great! Thank you to so much Brian for working on this :)

+100!! :100:

@ankursinha @skamath

Any objections to me moving the DRAFT over to the main page? Not sure if you want to finalize this more.

Thanks,

Brian

No objections whatsoever! Thanks @briangribble :)

This is now complete, isn't it? I'll close the ticket. Please re-open if necessary.
