#177 Fedora Classroom for GCI students
Closed: Fixed 3 years ago by nasirhm. Opened 4 years ago by bt0dotninja.

The google code in GCI attracts students between 13 to 17 years old to an online contest introducing teenagers to the world of open source development.
Fedora is an Open Source Mentoring Organizations this year many students are manifesting some interest in doing contributions.

It's a great opportunity to:

  • Onboard some new people excited by doing some contributions
  • Generate a good quality multimedia material for the join Sig.

I can help in proposing a syllabus and generating slides but my spoken english is not the best, so if someone can help me giving the talk will be awesome.

Hey! That's a great idea. I would love to collaborate with you @bt0dotninja. Lemme know how we could make this interesting and informative to all the newcomers. :D

I myself am a GCI 2019 Participant and would love to collaborate alongside you @bt0dotninja and @alishapapun , Kindly let me know how can we make it awesome, interesting & exciting for all the New Comers. :D

we can close this imo since GCI is long gone,. and nothing relevant will make a lot of impact.
What I definitely recommend is having "getting started with Fedora" classroom where we can touch base with places where you can start contributing, introduce folks to different sig (to show them that whatever their interest is, they can fit in), show them a couple of example contributions (QE - update testing, release validations, PRs etc), provide them links and stuff.
Like a fedora activity day but focused on new comers and a shorter (90 mins seems ideal).. we can call it vfad (virtual fedora activity day) :P or just a classroom session.

oh, and the reason I am proposing to making it generic to new comers because folks who participated in GCI can join and it will a;also be welcoming to other new comers folks who want to start.

Good Idea @siddharthvipul1 , Making it for newcomers would make it not only the GCI Students but for every newcomer and we can also add that to welcome-to-fedora tickets too.

Hey @bt0dotninja , I'm closing this ticket as We've had a similar session not focused on GCI (As it's long gone) but focused on how Fedora can help you launch/improve your career in IT potentially for newcomers.
