#160 Decide status tags for Welcome-to-Fedora repository
Closed: Fixed 4 years ago by ankursinha. Opened 4 years ago by ankursinha.

What tags shall we define for tickets that we'll use to help new-contributors on https://pagure.io/fedora-join/Welcome-to-Fedora?

Suggestion along two axes that cover the state of the newcomer:

  • new-ticket that needs a community member's response within 3 working days
  • we request them to introduce themselves to the community on the Fedora join mailing list (1 week)
  • Once they've introduced themselves, we give them temporary membership using wikiedit
  • we check on their progress from time to time until they've integrated to the community
  • they're a contributor!

So, status tags from the user's perspective:

  • S: Hello Fedora world
  • S: Introduced myself (introduction sent)
  • S: Getting to know Fedora (temporary membership)
  • S: I am Fedora (they've joined a team and started to contribute)

From the community's perspective:

  • C: Needs response
  • C: Introduction requested
  • C: Temporary membership needed
  • C: Temporary membership approved
  • C: Progress check - a check every 2 weeks to see how they're doing?
  • C: Closed - Complete/Inactive/Incomplete - scenarios depending on how it goes

We can write :

1.- A preformatted Welcome Message

and also Add some usefull information that I wrote some time ago in ask.f.o:

To get a general overview of the fedora project community and the project itself....

Hey @hhlp --- no, the whole point of the new proposal is to get newbies to speak to the people of the community first before we push them into contributing like we've always done.

Please read the proposal and discussion on the mindshare ticket: https://pagure.io/mindshare/issue/147

(Let's limit this ticket to the require status tags only and open new tickets for other discussion.)

So. Talking about this ticket: what about people that suddenly disappear?

"Status tags from the user's perspective" should also consider:
- Fedora community doesn't fit my expectations (the person actively communicate her problems and concerns): The user give up
- I have whatever problem or I have no more time, whatever. I am a free person, I have the right to abandon the community (all in all I have no responsibilities or works to complete) without saying anything to anyone: User unresponsive (after two months of inactivity?)

+1 to both. Hopefully, these won't be needed too often.

@alciregi - would you have time to make the new status tags in settings?

@alciregi - would you have time to make the new status tags in settings?

Yes.

Thanks very much---assigned to you, please close when done :)

Tags should be added to https://pagure.io/fedora-join/Welcome-to-Fedora, right?
If so, could you give me (us) the rights on this repository?

Yes---done. I had wrongly assumed that creating it in the fedora-join namespace automatically gave all of us rights. :(

Done.
I don't know if the colors are ok :-)
I added an custom issue field: "Temporary membership granted on" to keep track (eventually) of the date when the person was added to the temporary fas group. Could it be useful?

Looks good to me---we can always tweak later as required :)

Next, I think we should summarise the process on the README. I'll do that now. Closing this ticket as fixed :)
