#47 Does Fedora IoT need 32-bit ARM (armv7hl) support?

Hello, an interesting discussion is happening on Fedora devel mailing list about possibly dropping 32-bit ARM (armv7hl) support:

Before proceeding with the idea, I'd like to know if Fedora IoT has any concerns with such removal.

I'm just a user / contributor. I'm only using aarch64/v8 in all my Fedora IoT appliances on Raspberry Pi 3, 4 and CM4.

However, in the IoT docs there are still 4 armv7hl devices listed as tested and supported reference devices. One of them being the Raspberry Pi 2. Although that device might be considered a bit dated by now it could be a certain setback for the IoT landscape (of mostly home appliances I guess) if the RPI2 wasn't supported anymore. I think there are still many hobbyists out there with that device.

From an industry perspective, where also RHEL IoT comes into play, there might still be industrial IoT devices powered by the RPI2 architecture in the field.

That being said, I guess that IoT is so "brand new" that it is unlikely that any major deployment is actually comprised of armv7hl-only devices and FIoT.
