#9691 STG: Move vmguests from vmhost-x86-01/02/03 to vmhost-x86-11/12
Opened a year ago by smooge. Modified 3 months ago

Describe what you would like us to do:

We got new hardware to replace systems we would like to retire for age. The new vmhosts are in place and we can move the guests to the new servers.

Tasks:
determine number of cpu and memory used by guests and then align them best with the new hosts.
make changes to the ansible inventory
Redeploy or move the guests if possible.

Either turn off or look at using hosts as a smaller openshift4 cluster.

When do you need this to be done by? (YYYY/MM/DD)

This is blocked on getting kerberos working in staging.

I'd like to help on this

Kevin mentioned vmhost-x86-12 is down, but the ticket is still relevant. Things could be moved to vmhost-x86-11.stg but 12 will need to wait until someone is on site to bring it back alive as it didn't come back from a reboot.

Stats from existing hosts:

vmhost-x86-01.stg.iad2.fedoraproject.org: 62767.0/124207 mem(unused/total) 31/48 cpus(unused/total)
vmhost-x86-02.stg.iad2.fedoraproject.org: 85427.0/124339 mem(unused/total) 50/64 cpus(unused/total)
vmhost-x86-03.stg.iad2.fedoraproject.org: 91263.0/124031 mem(unused/total) 55/64 cpus(unused/total)
vmhost-x86-04.stg.iad2.fedoraproject.org: 70785.0/124033 mem(unused/total) 46/64 cpus(unused/total)
vmhost-x86-05.stg.iad2.fedoraproject.org: 59675.0/125211 mem(unused/total) 49/72 cpus(unused/total)
vmhost-x86-06.stg.iad2.fedoraproject.org: 55633.0/125265 mem(unused/total) 50/72 cpus(unused/total)
vmhost-x86-07.stg.iad2.fedoraproject.org: 61875.0/123315 mem(unused/total) 52/72 cpus(unused/total)
vmhost-x86-08.stg.iad2.fedoraproject.org: 45773.0/123597 mem(unused/total) 36/64 cpus(unused/total)
vmhost-x86-09.stg.iad2.fedoraproject.org: 81261.0/124269 mem(unused/total) 42/48 cpus(unused/total)
vmhost-x86-10.stg.iad2.fedoraproject.org: 38354.0/124370 mem(unused/total) 35/48 cpus(unused/total)
vmhost-x86-11.stg.iad2.fedoraproject.org: 361233/361233 mem(unused/total) 96/96 cpus(unused/total)

So, we want to try and move things off 01/09/10 -> 11

@mobrien or @kevin will get to this when they can.

Perhaps we could do this next monday when we do staging updates/reboots... move them before or after and get it done.

All vms form vmhost-x86-01.stg have been moved to vmhost-x86-11.stg

[backlog refinement]
This is not a priority right now, but it would be good to move the machines to RHEL9 during the move
