#9509 posts to Fedora users list not getting posted.
Closed: Fixed 3 years ago by smooge. Opened 3 years ago by bier.

Between yesterday and today (Tuesday, December 01), I've submitted at least 3 posts to the Fedora users list that never showed up in the list.
The first was sent from Thunderbird at 9:57pm (US mountain time) on Monday, November 30.
The second was sent from Thunderbird at 11:44am today.
The third was sent via the Fedora Hyperkitty at about 6pm today.
In all three cases, I received no "users post acknowledgment" from users-bounces, nor did I receive any rejection message, nor did the posts show up in the Fedora Hyperkitty, nor did the posts show up in digest messages.

My name in the list is "home user".
My login in the list is "mattisonw@comcast.net".

Am I doing something wrong? If yes, what? What should I be doing differently?
Otherwise, what is causing the problem?

I think I've had a previous issue here regarding this kind of trouble.

The thread I'm trying to post to is mine, so I'd like this solved quite rapidly. But I don't have a specific need-by date.

Thank-you in advance.
Bill.

Hi,

I'm seeing some post from (I believe) you on https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/users@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/DI4NUTIRORZBG3DWGS2PXF5YDY2USCYY/#OM44B3ODKPFXHJWHCWYNPTLBLAGZ6TD3 is this the thread you have trouble replying to?

Do you see any of your email missing from this page?

Could you be using gmail behind this email address?

OK we seem to have multiple problems with the mailman service at the moment and you are getting bit by them. For some reason it accepted the emails from you at first and then started labeling them as DISCARD versus even a hold. I am working through which filter is causing this.

I do not think you are the only user being affected by this so this moves it out of 'single user affected' to 'multiple users' so relabeling to medium-gain.

I am trying a couple of hammers. Could you please resend the emails and update the ticket with any information on when they were sent so I can track if the hammer helps or not.

yes.

no.

I'm using comcast.net e-mail through Thunderbird running on a Fedora-32 home, stand-alone work-station. If gmail is behind/underneath that, I don't know about it.

Bill.

I am trying a couple of hammers. Could you please resend the emails and update the ticket with any information on when they were sent so I can track if the hammer helps or not.

  1. I used Thunderbird to send one message to the same thread. The copy that went into my "Sent" folder says it was sent at 9:02am US mountain time.

  2. I used the Fedora Hyperkitty "Reply" button to reply to a post by Ed Greshko. I clicked the send button at 9:15am.

In both cases, I received no "users post acknowledgment" from users-bounces, nor did I receive any rejection message. But in both cases, the messages showed up in my Inbox. But I see that both messages now show up in the correct places in Fedora Hyperkitty.

You succeeded in hammering out a fix. Thank-you. Where do you buy your hammers?!

I needed to log into mailman3 and go to your user. For some reason your user had nothing configured to allow sending. All options were neither true or false. When I tried to set one option and save, it required me to set options for the rest to send. This is why you are not getting "user post acknowledgement" at the moment as I set it to off.

You should be able to reset it to on if you want it.

I do not know why your account got set into this weird state after you sent several emails. There is nothing logged to say it was done. There are other issues with this server I need to deal with which may fix it for others. I am going to mark this as closed as fixed. Please reopen or open a new ticket if it happens again
