This ticket requests some WordPress plugins to be added, removed, or updated as sorted below. I've tested the combination of these plugins on my personal WordPress blog running the same WordPress version as the Community Blog (4.9.6):
End of September? There's not a hard date.
The plugin updates are useful any time.
There is existing functionality desired from some of the plugin upgrades that make the editor workflow easier (specifically with Jetpack and Yoast). Some of the new plugins improve the editor experience or improves the reading experience for people reading from an RSS feed.
So, this should be all done I think. A few notes however:
I am not sure I got the right Featured Images in RSS w/ Size and Position (by 5 Star Plugins) plugin. It was very confusing as I couldn't find a plugin by that exact name. Please check.
gutenberg wouldn't activate because it wanted a newer wordpress to do so. Since that update was pending anyhow, I just did it and applied all the other updates at the same time and did a reboot. It's activated now.
note that anyone with root ssh access to the instance can manage plugins. They are in /var/lib/wordpress/wp-content/plugins and you can simply rm or download new plugins and they will appear in the instance. This can only be done from there as a security measure.
Let us know if you need anything further...

Thanks @kevin! I noticed one other plugin must have fallen off somewhere. In #6811, we installed Public Post Preview Configurator. Is it possible to reinstall this plugin too?
Thanks, you got the right one!
I'm interested in gaining access to update plugins more often – is there a way I can get involved with this?

It looks like currently @nb and @chrisroberts are listed as owners of the instance with root access. If they are ok adding you we can do that. :)
thanks.

@kevin i'm fine with giving @jflory7 root access.
