  • Describe what you need us to do: If you are willing, please add me to the wikiedit group so I can continue to contribute minor fixes to the wiki without having to join another non-CLA group, most of which seem to expect a commitment to ongoing involvement that I don't want to make. See this thread for background. Since the minor issue I originally found has been fixed, my only edit at this time will be to update the contributor documentation 1 and 2 to direct other users like me to join the wikiedit group if they don't want to join another group. So if there's more to the policy than that, please let me know now. Or if you're deliberately keeping the wikiedit group hush-hush and don't want me to make this change, I suppose I have no need for wikiedit access myself at this time. Thanks for your attention!

  • When do you need this? At your convenience.

  • When is this no longer needed or useful? Useful indefinitely.

  • If we cannot complete your request, what is the impact? Potential loss of timely minor fixes to the wiki by me and others who would read the documentation I'm proposing to add.

So, to provide a bit of background here: The wiki used to editable by anyone with a fedoraproject account. Sadly, we had a big bot attack a few years back and they started making defacing edits. We put in place measures to prevent them from making accounts, but some always manage to slip though. So, we changed things to require cla_done + 1 other group. Our hope is that most people editing the wiki are doing so as part of another existing group and will just be in that group and ok. (ie, packagers editing packaging docs, qa editing qa pages, etc). Of course this isn't perfect as your case proves.

So, I'm happy to add you to wikiedit, but we should be carefull how we explain this. IMHO we shouldn''t say "file a ticket and ask to join wikiedit anytime you want to change anything at all on the wiki". We should encourage people to join some other area and get wiki editing as a side effect, ie "Look at whatcanidoforfedora.org and see if there's any areas you might want to contribute to that would add you to their group(s). If you don't have time or desire for that, you can request access to wikiedit group" or something like that....

I can also make a template here to make such requests easier...

does that make sense? I wish we could just drop the requirement... but I fear the spammers would be back all too soon. ;(
