#671 Create in.fedoraproject.org
Closed: Fixed None Opened 15 years ago by sundaram.

As I talked to Mike earlier, we would like to have a Indian site for Fedora Project hosted within the current infrastructure. This would provide a platform for regional work such

  • Localization
  • Internationalization
  • Event management
  • Local language spins
  • Visibility to Indian contributors and so on

We would need a small amount of web space initially (around 500 MB?) and ability to commit changes and administrate directly. Not sure what additional information to provide. Let me know if you have questions

You talked with me about this? Please show the reference, as I recall we're going to host some source code as a project under http://fedorahosted.org/

Additionally the websites team have been meeting regularly about spins, have you or anyone on the Indian team been involved or gone to these meetings?

I'm tagging this with meeting so we can talk about it, please come by (or delegate to someone) to come to one of our meetings:

Yes, We chatted on IRC in #fedora-admin a few weeks before Fedora 9 about setting up a Indian site and you told me to file a ticket post-release. This was in addition to migrating some projects to fedorahosted which is unrelated to this ticket. I am part of the Spin SIG and attended the Boston discussion so I am aware of the work being done on that front. The local language spins I created was stalled due to lack of space for hosting them. You can see one of them at spins.fp.o currently however. The Indian website that we have planned isn't limited to spins however. I will try to attend the next infrastructure meeting.

Whatever process was followed to get one up should be followed to get the rest up.

That cannot be done since jwb who did it does not want to continue doing it. Refer advisory board list for more details. Again, the website isn't focused just on spins and I don't want to be discussing spins yet again.

Ok a couple of things.

  • Localization - we have a localized website at fedoraproject.org/ and soon the wiki will be localized as well
  • Internationalization - Whats the difference between this and localization?
  • Event management - like a calendar system?
  • Local language spins - the normal spins process should work for this AFAIK. Jesse is building a spin right now
  • Visibility to Indian contributors - I don't understand what this means. Like, a public website they can go to?

in.fedoraproject.org will soon be reserved for the translated wiki and websites. I think what you guys are asking for is some public hosting space. If so, what does fedorapeople.org not provide already?

Although 'in' is not officially an ISO 639-1 language code (i.e. two letter language code), I'd be hesitant to say "thats okay". We have to be somewhat open to the fact that ISO 639-* codes change/get added to and not fall into a pit of horrible gunk.

I believe the Fedora India community would benefit from having a website like many other regional communities and activities on the website are going to be fairly similar. fedorapeople.org offers a small amount of quota space and not a website.

I also believe the Fedora India community would benefit from having a website like many other regional communities... what is preventing the India community from doing this just like the other communities?

Like I said, I had the impression you were interested in hosting it within Fedora infrastructure. If you are not interested, let me know and I will look elsewhere.

Whats the status of this ancient ticket? ;)

Do you need fedora infra to add a in.fedoraproject.org dns zone pointed at your machine?

I think, the new method would be in.fedoracommunity.org and you can point it to fudcon.in for now.

I've filed a board ticket here to get the domain approved. Will add it once they ack.

The board approved this, I have added it.

Let us know if there's anything further we need to add or do.

Is in.fedoracommunity.org pointing to fudcon.in? doesnt seem to be

it is, but it may take a bit more to sync out to our nameservers. It's not instant.
