#6615 Change BZ Contact for Fedora Docs
Closed: Fixed 5 years ago Opened 6 years ago by bex.

I spoke with @pfrields and it appears he is the default point of contact for Fedora Docs BZs. He isn't monitoring this as closely at this time, so we'd like to change this to @bex (me) for now.

I hope we will eventually get a new person to take this or we will complete the migration away from BZ (or to pointers).

This is not urgent.

Agreed, this seems like a very old holdover from my days as a Docs lead (up until about 2008-2009?). Definitely needs to be changed, and in fact I thought it had been some years ago.

Just looked, and it depends on what component. For what components do you want the default assignee changed?

The components I can see that have @pfrields as default assignee:
- about-fedora
- homepage
- jargon-buster
- readme

Is this as primary contact or as Docs Contact? Is it possible to get a list of Fedora component docs contacts?

Primary assignee for the components under "Fedora Documentation".
I will send you the full list via email.

Sorry, no update yet. @puiterwijk sent the list and I have not had time to grok it.

Hey @bex. It would be good to get this done and off the list...

Or shall we close this and re-open when/if there are known changes to make?

Given that we have Petr on the team now, I'd propose that Petr be made this contact instead of Bex.

A reasonable idea for sure! hey, @pbokoc any thoughts here?

We are talking about the "Fedora Documentation" product in bugzilla and all the components under there:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/enter_bug.cgi?product=Fedora%20Documentation

I am really not sure if these components make sense anymore. There's a number owned by @pfrields but also a number owned by 'nobody' and some various other people.

Hi, personally I'm in favor of retiring these components and using pagure issues instead. The majority of these components have been unused for years and most don't even translate to any content we currently publish, and the components that still make sense still don't seem to get any significant traffic. Searching for all open bugs in all components under Fedora Docs shows 212 open bugs, but only 49 of them have seen any movement in 2018, the rest haven't been touched since last year or longer (in some cases 2011...).

I suspect pagure is preferable to almost anyone due to its much simpler UI and the fact you can use FAS to log in - you need a separate account for Bugzilla.

Tell you what, @kevin , let's change the default owner to me for all components under Fedora Documentation for now; that way you can knock this off your todo list and we'll take this off Paul's plate too. My BZ account is pbokoc@gmail.com. Sometime later I'll go through the BZs, close everything that isn't relevant anymore, migrate the rest to pagure issues, and we can decide whether to get rid of the whole BZ product, or if we want to keep a few components open and only close ones that don't have any matching docs anymore. If we do the latter I'll put together a list of components for deletion and make sure they don't have any open bugs in them so they can be removed.

Sounds good to me. However, bugzilla isn't seeing 'pbokoc@gmail.com' as a valid account. Are you sure thats the right one?

Also, do you want to give a heads up to the docs list about this so no one complains that their bugzilla component gets reassigned?

Ahhh, @kevin, sorry, I meant pbokoc@redhat.com :-D

Good idea with the docs list, I'll send out a mail.

Done.

Let us know if you need anything else here.
