#5528 More mirrors for Australia via mirrormanager
Closed: Upstream Opened by crcinau.

Mirror Manager is somewhat retarded when it comes to mirrors in Australia.

The current mirrors are:

I would like to suggest that non-australian mirrors are added to this list - but at a low priority. This would allow installations of packages from the fedora repo specifically even when all three mirrors in Australia are behind.

No real suggestion on which mirrors to add, but anything has to be better than only 3 mirrors available for an entire country.

@adrian Can you take a look at this? Perhaps we could add APAC as a secondary for .au?

Hmm... Right now, with what we have in MirrorManager, this seems difficult. We can map a country to another continent. But as far as I know that is exclusively. If we add one country to another continent, it is gone from the previous continent. (Interesting sentence if seen out of context...). We could map Australia to 'AS' (Asia in GeoIP) but that could result in mirrors far, far away. This would also remove 'AU' mirrors from the 'OC' continent.

It would be nice to have the possibility to add mirrors from close countries as low priority mirrors for countries with a small number of mirrors. This is something we currently do not have so that this cannot be easily solved.

We discussed this on IRC and one possible solution (or workaround) would be to provide a mirror which is globally available on every mirrorlist/metalink:

https://github.com/fedora-infra/mirrormanager2/issues/194

I'm going to close this in favor of the upstream issue. Once we have that we can at least get a few master mirrors at the end (even if they are slow).
