#5514 Request to create a Diversity mailing list *private* .
Closed: Fixed 7 years ago Opened 7 years ago by amsharma.

For https://pagure.io/fedora-diversity/issue/15 , We need to have a private mailing list, which can only be accessed by fedora diversity group. You can make me owner of the mailing list and I can share the ownership with rest of the team members.
Discussions, mails and even the archived mails should only be accessed by these owners or subscribers.
Thanks.

Subscription should be restricted if "sensitive issues" are going to be discussed?

You are the list owner, you can setup the list whatever way you like.

If you have trouble setting it the way you want, feel free to ask or check with #fedora-admin folks on IRC, but it should be pretty easy in the settings.

Hey Kevin,

Thanks for creating it. I have two issues here.

  1. The mails which I am sending to "diversity@lists.fedoraproject.org" is also getting archived to this new mailing list which is "diversity-private@lists.fedoraproject.org" and which is separate mailing list. These two lists are separate and have different purpose, please don't merge them. I can see the merged archive here - https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/search?q=diversity-private%40lists.fedoraproject.org
I request you to please segregate them.

  2. I asked one of my friend who is not subscribed to the list "diversity-private@lists.fedoraproject.org" to view the archive message of the list and she was able to view it. This list should be private and no one who is not subscribed to the list should be able to view the message (not even in the archives). Can you please make the required changes so that no one (who is not subscribed) can view the private messages on this list.

Thanks a ton,
Amita

@kevin I am sure, why so many copies of single comment is going in and I am not even authorized to delete or edit my own comment once submitted, looks like Pagure needs some bug fixes.

So, the lists aren't connected/merged... the diversity-private archive is at: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/diversity-private@lists.fedoraproject.org/ and only has a test message. It should of course be private also, but I am getting an error when trying to set it.

@abompard https://lists.fedoraproject.org/adhttps://lists.fedoraproject.org/admin/lists/diversity-private.lists.fedoraproject.org/settings/archiving seems to give a 500 error?

@kevin Not too have too many pings here, but is there also a way we can silence the fedmsg notification for this mailing list?

Yep. There's a patch to mailman's fedmsg config for this. We can do a freeze break for it, or wait until wed to change it when we are out of freeze.

I fixed the error and set the list to private. Someone not subscribed to the list should not be able to see the list archives any more.

I've pushed out the change so this list should not send any fedmsgs.

I think that addresses all the issues here?

If there's anything further please let us know... and sorry for the delay.

@kevin @abompard thank you very much. I will do some testing and let you know in case of any issue.

@kevin @abompard We did some more testing with the mailing list, but it seems like I am able to view the archives even without being subscribed. We confirmed that others like @rhea were unable to view it until after being subscribed.

Any thoughts on why this is the case? For the record, my FAS group membership:

@kevin @abompard Request you to please look into above issue ^^

Thanks,
Amita

Sorry @amsharma I thought this was all sorted out. ;( Reopening.

I can't see why @jflory7 would be able to see the archives. ;( Hopefully @abompard can figure it out.

Hey! Justin, could you try looking at the archives now? I think I found the reason.

@abompard @amsharma Super sorry for the delay in getting back on this ticket! I just tried looking, and I receive this error:

This mailing list is private. You must be subscribed to view the archives.

I tried subscribing and found that I was put into a moderation queue for being approved to the mailing list. Everything seems good to go, as far as I can tell!

Great!

:saxophone:

Feel free to reopen if you still see any issues here...
