#5463 Fedora lists, search field doesn't work with FF Android
Closed: Fixed 7 years ago Opened 7 years ago by chrismurphy.

= bug description =

In Firefox on Android, no matter what search term I use, I get no results.

= bug analysis =

  1. https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.org/

  2. "Search this list" field put in the word systemd and hit the right arrow on the keyboard. This is the field right under the Subscription button. Right arrow is the green button on the bottom right of the screen shot attached.

  3. I get a page
    Search results for query ""
    0 messages

Sorry but your query looks empty

The URL for this page is:
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/search?list=devel%40lists.fedoraproject.org&query=systemd

Will attach a screenshot of this as well.

= fix recommendation =

Using the search field in Firefox Android, and Firefox Fedora, I get the following two search fields in order:

Top URL is from Android.
Bottom URL is from

{{{
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/search?list=devel%40lists.fedoraproject.org&query=systemd
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/search?mlist=devel%40lists.fedoraproject.org&q=systemd
}}}

So for whatever reason it looks like Firefox on Android is getting the wrong URL and thus the results are bogus. If I plug in the resulting URL from FF Android into FF Fedora, I also get a failed search result.

Do you have javascript disabled or the like?

You're not supposed to hit return, you should type the search term in the search field and it will bring up a list of results and you choose one from that list and it goes to it.

Firefox on Fedora, there is a magnifying glass I have to click on to get it to go to a page of results. Firefox on Androidi there is no magnifying glass and just typing in words does nothing, Javascript isn't disabled.

Odd, here in firefox on android I type in say 'copr' and it gives me a popup type thing with 'copr-devel@lists.fedoraproject.org' in it, I press on that and get to the list.

I can't seem to find a version number on it anywhere tho. ;(

No I'm not looking for a list. I'm searching for threads in a list. I'm clicking in the "Search this list field" while I'm already in the devel list, which is the list I want to search. And I want to search for the word systemd, that's it. So I type that in and nothing happens, if I click the right arrow/return button, I get a no results page.

Settings > Apps > Firefox

Android 6.0

ah, ok. I misunderstood.

I can indeed duplicate this here. ;)

Lets see what abompard makes of it.

I went ahead and filed this upstream:

Feel free to add more info there or follow along... hopefully it's an easy fix.
