We discussed this at the meetings a bit, but this is extremely difficult, as we have no reliable map from wikiname to username.

This is correct. There is no automated way to do this as we have no mapping between wikiname and username. Though, as part of the migration, we'll be explaining to users that they should be using their username from now on and that they need to migrate their /wiki/WikiName pages to /wiki/User:username

For me my /wiki/MikeMcGrath becomes /wiki/User:mmcgrath

But '''many''' wiki pages are referring to names using WikiName notation and expecting them to get linked, they'll all be broken. :-( There might also be references to things which aren't user names, where the conversion should be feasible. For the user pages, maybe redirects could be used? Even if every user has to set up the redirect by hand, it would still be better than having to convert links by hand in all the pages. :-(

In other words, what I'm suggesting is:
* autoconvert WikiNames (irrelevantly of whether they're user names or not) to links, so everything which was a link in Moin will still be a link in MediaWiki
* have users set up a redirect from e.g. KevinKofler to e.g. User:kkofler

Now if you still think this is a no-go, or just don't have the time to implement it, you can set it back to wontfix, but IMHO it would really be a big improvement to keep those links intact.

This was discussed by the wiki conversion committee. The basic thing is this:

We're going to send an email to all the wiki users telling them the following:

1. They need to log in with username instead of WikiName
2. They need to manually move their /wiki/WikiName page to User:username
3. In doing the manual move, mediawiki will auto forward the pages.

So at no point in time will a page actually not work. We're basically ignoring any accounts that did exist in the old wiki and start using FAS + cla_done as the users that can log in. As a result the /wiki/WikiName will be there until they move it, at which point in time the pages will automatically get redirected.

You're still losing the autoconversion of the CamelCase into links.
