#532 get-fedora link to additional information for jigdo downloads
Closed: Fixed None Opened 15 years ago by afarris.

The get-fedora pages offer jigdo download links for Fedora 9 as part of the new Jigdo feature. The get-fedora page however has no additional information about jigdo for people who are new to this feature.

Adding a link to more information, whether it is to the Fedora wiki, or to external documentation would be helpful for downloaders.

The JigdoRelease Feature page is here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/JigdoRelease but this is not really end-user documentation to link to. The following pages are linked as documentation from the release wiki page.
http://fedorasolved.org/post-install-solutions/jigdo/
http://atterer.net/jigdo/

This was suggested on Fedora-test-list by Adam Pribyl in the thread here:

anyone on the web team want to get this?

Sounds simple enough. I'll take it!

patch v1.0 (using strings) without duplicates
jigdo-explain.diff

Sorry, I didn't notice that there was a patch on this one - afarris: are you OK with the text, or do you have any other suggestions before this gets pushed?

Looking at the get-fedora-all page, putting that text there would not make sense. It seems that we'd also have to do something similar for bittorrent.
An alternate idea could be to add a question mark icon or add a 'format help' section which could provide more details on torrents, iso, jidgo, etc.
I do agree that including something like this would be helpful for a new user.

Investigating.

We no longer offer jidgo. I discovered we still have markup live that is commented. View source at http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora-all . I need to submit a diff to remove.

Contacting #fedora-websites at the suggestion of nirik.

nirik confirmed we no longer offer jigdo. elad661 is removing the commented markup. The markup is not present in get-prerelease.
