New mailing list 'python-packaging' request.

= background analysis =

A mailing list for people to ask us (the Fedora Python-Maintenance team) for help with packaging python packages for Fedora.

We can definitely make this if you like, but perhaps it would be better to ask people to ask on the main packaging list and you all help out there?

The packaging list doesn't seem like it gets all that much traffic, but perhaps I am missing something...

We talked about that, but we decided to start a new list for these reasons:

a) packaging python is significantly different from packaging other software,

b) it is further complicated by the current necessity to package both python2 and python3 versions of most of python packages,

c) currently there's a big push to get all the python2-only packages ported over.

I fail to understand why the existing python-devel list, which gets almost no traffic, isn't suitable. How is this not on topic for that list? Why is that list not sufficient?

We want it separate so it can be better handled by our team, it can be dedicated solely to the python porting topic, can be more easily searched for the common problems that arise, etc.

So, I voiced your proposals at our team meeting, and we decided that you both are right, that another mailing list is not necessary. We're going to go with python-devel, hopefully they won't object to beginner questions there.

Thank you for the input and sorry for the ticket!

Tomas
