#3605 Permanent URL for EPEL configuration package
Closed: Fixed None Opened 7 years ago by remi.

= bug description =
No permanent URL
All third party repositories have such URL

The last update to -8 release have broken so much doc / script in the world

= fix recommendation =
Provide a permanent URL such as
http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-6.rpm
http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-5.rpm

This has been asked before, however... we have no automated way of making such a link, and I am really not liking the idea of making a human have to notice it's changed and update it manually.

I'm open to ideas on how to do this. If we are just updating it manually, perhaps a wiki page so anyone could update it? Or a template if all the docs you refer to are in the wiki?

{{{
ln -f 6/i386/epel-release-* epel-release-6.rpm
}}}

If it can be done manually, then it can be done automatically with (in)cron or added to the push scripts.

I don't see any advantage in such a link maintained by a small group of people, nor an easy place for it to live.
(it cannot be in the 6 repo, as mash makes a new one each push).

Sure, you could modify mash to create it, feel free to submit patches to mash to do that and would pick those up on the next update.
