So, in an ideal world we would have our limesurvey instance up and just host this as a survey there.

Sadly, this world is not ideal. ;)

We would want to carefully note how we will use the information gathered.

We need to make sure gathering email address is something we want to do/should do.

Some options:

a) we could just host this in a private cloud instance or an openshift instance.

PROS: easy to setup, could have something up quickly.

CONS: Once this is up there would be an expectation of it being up and working, so we would still need to maintain it.

b) we could make this a regular app written in one of our preferred frameworks.

PROS: Would probibly get several people who knew the application.

CONS: Would take longer, would be duplication of effort when/if we have a limesurvey instance.

c) We could host this at https://www.limeservice.com/

PROS: Don't need to maintain things, easy setup.

CONS: Might cost $'s and would not be at 'fedoraproject' if thats important.

We talked about this yesterday and came to this rough agreement:

• Write application that asks survey questions and records answers
• Run the questions and the disclaimers in the app by spot/legal
• We want to make sure that the information we collect can all be made public since that decreases the risk of data being maliciously released
• Fedora-N comes out
• Announce survey a week later
• Collect data for a month
• Start writing guides
• Preliminary guides slated to go into F-(N+1)
• Update survey questions and add new ones to fill in gaps in the guide
• Run the new survey by spot/legal if necessary
• F-(N+1) released
• announce new survey a week later
• Collect data for a month
• Dump data, give to the people writing guides, and decommission app
• Use new data to write a final draft of the guides.

We can provide a cloud instance to run the survey application. It will only be actively hit by the public for a brief time from F-N release to a month or so after F-(N+1) release. We can also provide the cloud instance if necessary for developing the app but it seems like it would be okay to develop this on the developer's local machine and just create the cloud instance once we're ready to collect survey answers.

Note that there's no FAS integration included in this plan (shouldn't be needed -- the survey data can be anonymous).

If a more permanent survey is desired in the future, we'll want to deploy a fedora limesurvey instance or similar platform that has an active upstream community and host that type of survey there.
