we have various symlinks in our tree of yum repositories that are now no longer viewable by apache:

[mmccune@people03 RHEL]$ ls -al
..
drwxrwxr-x. 3 lzap gitkatello 4096 Oct 15 12:47 6
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 lzap gitkatello 1 Oct 15 14:30 6Server -> 6
[mmccune@people03 RHEL]$ pwd
/project/katello/releases/yum/1.1/RHEL

but if you try to fetch 6Server from a client you get a 403 forbidden:

$ curl http://fedorapeople.org/groups/katello/releases/yum/1.1/RHEL/6Server/
...
