i use dual monitors. whenever i start my computer, by the time i (supposedly) reach the login screen, the following things happen:
in monitor 1:
i'm only shown the background image, WITHOUT the login box. i can see the background image (fireworks image), i can see my mouse cursor, and i can move my mouse around. but the login box is nowhere to be found.
in monitor 2:
faintly blinking black screen

if i put my computer to sleep, and then wake it up, the login box appears in monitor 1 and i can login without problem

this problem does NOT happen if i start my computer with only 1 monitor

it happens in my fedora 17. previously my fedora 16 didn't have this problem (even though it was the same pc)
