#2838 New endpoint for "fudcon.fedoraproject.org"
Closed: Fixed None Opened 12 years ago by fcrippa.

= problem =
fudcon.fedoraproject.org is not very useful for the marketing/ambassador team

= analysis =
w need to point the CNAME of "fudcon.fedoraprojet.org" to:
http://fedora-fudcon.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/

= enhancement recommendation =
We're currently testing a dedicated (static) website for fudcon emea hosted on S3 (Virginia) :

http://fedora-fudcon.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/

ok. The board is good with doing something like this as a short term solution while an events setup is worked on.

So, lets discuss logistics?

would a fudcon.fedoraproject.org page, that has a good link/info to fudcon.fedoraproject.org/milan/ or the like work?

What are you intending to write the site in? Is it something we could look at just adding to our existing websites infrastructure and hosting ourselves? (note that we have many geographically diverse sites and redundency, so this might be better than a single S3 site).

I've added some of our websites folks to comment here...

Sounds good to me.

I'd prefer genshi, like fp.o, but that depends on whether we want a static page for information or something more complex such as registration.

I have an updated file with how static-html mockup is going. Should I add it as attachment here or send it to someone?

NOTE: we are still using lipsum info since we haven't receive yet all info about FUDcon EMEA.

Any news here? I think we would like to have:

  1. What tools will be needed to create this site?

  2. Is the websites team going to work on this (possibly with others added)?

  3. Is the site intended to be static/just info? Or will there need to be user signups/database interaction?

  4. Whats our timeline for getting this written and deployed?

Feel free to add anyone here to CC who can provide insight.
Tatica: Feel free to attach mockups or links to mockups. ;)

I would think a simple static html site would work. We could set it up similar to fp.o with using genshi for the template and setup the cron job for the site building process.

We can definitely assist with getting this going. I don't believe we should be the team responsible for owning this, particularly the content.

From what i can tell, having this static site is just a interim solution until the events "system" is put in place.

I dunno.

I do like that having fudcon.fp.o subdomain. I think it is a good easy to remember url. However, why can't we have fudcon.fp.o redirect to https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon:Milan_2011? This sort of kills two birds with 1 stone, no? 1) its static and 2) it can be easily updated. The other thing to consider is that we don't have to manage another system that is only planned to be an interim solution anyhow.

We had a quick discussion in #fedora-websites. In the interim the group will create static html site until the application is packaged, approved and deployed.
I created a basic working site for fudcon.fp.o and added it to the fedora-web git repo (1).

I think from an infra pov, there are still a few pieces (dns, update site build scripts, etc) required to get this available publicly but it should be simple to accomplish. I'm thinking we should also setup fudcon.stg.fp.o domain too.

dns was already in place. I updated the rest just a bit ago.

Everything should be in place. Some content is now there...
will need to get all the content in place and announce it.

I'm going to go ahead and close this now, unless there's further action to take here.
