#2519 kill cvs with fire
Closed: Fixed None Opened 13 years ago by skvidal.

cvs server still exists and sucks up a cpu and ram

kill it with fire.

kernel pkg still has cvs used for history of the kernel pkg, etc. This needs a place to live but probably not an entire server.

the following projects still use the cvs server

console coolkey mod_nss mod_revocator windowsautoenroll

they need to be migrated to fedorahosted.org

mod_nss, mod_revocator are owned by rob crittenden and he is okay with migrating them to git on fedorahosted.org.

contacting rich megginson for the rest

console can be moved and use svn

update: console may want to use git - that decision is pending.

coolkey: users rrelyea and jmagne are wanting to stay using cvs as their scm. Asking them about a resource using just cvs + ssh and no anon access - potentially on fedorapeople.org as a stopgap or a solution.

Still working on windowsautoenroll to find an owner

Also running a find to look for all modified trees in our cvs trees.

mod_revocator and mod_nss are created on fedorahosted now.

See also https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-infrastructure/ticket/2621 - cvs console will be moving to git fedorahosted idm-console-framework

So, whats left here?

windowsautoenroll and coolkey?

Also, see ticket 2476 about l10n owners file. It's currently in cvs still.

I also see changes in 'dirsec/console' recently ( http://directory.fedoraproject.org/wiki/AdminServer ?) and
also 'elvis' still is seeing changes.

We have made changes to console in CVS recently (only because it is not yet in git) - console is here http://directory.fedoraproject.org/wiki/BuildingConsole not AdminServer.

What is 'elvis'?

The last time I spoke to the owner of windowsautoenroll and coolkey, he most certainly did not want to give up CVS.

ok. Is there anything we can do to assist with moving that to git?

What is 'elvis'?

It's some translation framework. I will try and track down whats causing it to still update anything. It shouldn't be used anymore I don't think.

ok.

Can you point them to:

https://savannah.gnu.org/register/

or

http://developer.berlios.de/account/login.php?return_to=/register/

as sites that still offer cvs access. :)
We can't really keep the cvs server running for 2 small projects, sorry...

Looks like you guys already migrated CVS console to git idm-console-framework - thanks! I was expecting to have to do the migration myself.

As for windowsautoenroll and coolkey, you'll have to contact the maintainer directly.

Who can we contact about those two projects?

rrelyea@redhat.com jmagne@redhat.com awnuk@redhat.com

I have mailed them about it and will see what option we can work out here.

With those last 3 projects moved, I have taken down the machine.

I will let it sit for a week, and if nothing comes up will get it removed.

Thanks everyone!

Well, it's not been a week, but everything looked ok to remove it, so I did.

We still have all the data that we can mount on another machine and pull off anything we need. Please do let me know if there is any data that folks need off it and I would be happy to fetch it.
