Describe what you would like us to do:

I need to have two separated COPR groups. I was reading the documentation at https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/infra/howtos/groups_in_fedora/ and it is reported I need to write a ticket here.

I would like that the name of the two COPR groups should be:

  • athenaos
  • athena

When do you need this to be done by?

I tried to create the groups and FAS is saying that the groups exists already, but there is no group with that name. But there are already users https://accounts.fedoraproject.org/user/athenaos/ and https://accounts.fedoraproject.org/user/athena/. So I assume that there is some conflict in group name and user name.

@kevin Any idea how we can work around that?

@zlopez thanks for the answer. I am new on COPR, and I created "athenaos" account as user (I control it) because I was not aware about "groups" concept before I read the documentation, but for my need, I actually need to have a group instead of a user. So, if "athenaos" user should be deleted to create "athenaos" group, you can do, I used it in these days just for testing, so its content could be also deleted with no issues.

So, is it not possible to have groups and users with the same name?

I'm actually surprised that you can't have groups with same name as existing user. Let's wait for @kevin if he has any idea.

Yes, this is 100% expected. ;)

When you make a user 'foo'... it creates a group 'foo' for that user. This has been the way ever since... Red Hat Linux 3?

Anyhow, we can't have groups and users with the same name.

We could delete the user I suppose, as long as it's not really done anything we need to keep history for.
Or we could pick another name for the group?
Which would you prefer?

Thanks for the answer @kevin

For the user "athenaos", it is mine, so you can also delete and recreate it as a group. It won't impact my job.

For the user "athena", it seems inactive and didn't sign the agreement... I don't know if you can reassign accounts that seem inactive to make them as a group

@kevin I forgot that the user is actual posix user, so it also has a group of same name. Thanks for clarification.

@noctua Let me delete the athenaos account if that is yours, but the athena one was created a year ago, so I would hesitate to delete it. Could we name the group differently?

@zlopez Sure. The new name could be "athena-rpm" instead of "athena".

OK, let me create the groups for you.

I created the athenos group and athena-rpm group and made you sponsor in each group.

You can change the description of group as well.
