#11326 Please change membership model of gitlab.com/fedora/sigs/mobility to gitlab from FAS
Closed: Invalid 11 months ago by ryanlerch. Opened 11 months ago by nikodunk.

Please change membership model of https://gitlab.com/fedora/sigs/mobility/ to be gitlab-dependent and not only mirror the SAML FAS permissions, as otherwise (for example) merging on gitlab requires users to be added as admins of FAS mobility-SIG.

Please mirror the membership structure of https://gitlab.com/fedora/websites-apps/fedora-websites/fedora-websites-3.0, where a gitlab user with owner or maintainer permissions can simply add another gitlab user and choose their permissions without it being linked necessarily to their FAS account or SAML permissions.

@kevin suggested on mobilty matrix that I should file a ticket here to ask.

Thank you!!

Sure -- but you will have to manually ensure that each user is a Fedora Contributor, and have signed the FPCA before adding them to the group.

Note too that fedora-websites-3.0 is likely moving to the proper way of using FAS accounts to manage group membership here.

Also, the owner of the group can turn this off or change the permissions themselves in the gitlab settings (Settings > SAML Group Links) i.e. if you can change the link for the mobility-sig group to mainteriners in gitlab if you want.

Ideally the decision was made to use FAS groups to control this as the default standard, but you also have the power to change it.

I have also filed a ticket with the council to hopefully clarify this

https://pagure.io/Fedora-Council/tickets/issue/456

Note too that we can add more FAS groups to link to gitlab permissions (i.e. a mobility-sig-maintainers FAS group that links to the Maintainers role in gitlab)

Hi @nikodunk,

Please mirror the membership structure of https://gitlab.com/fedora/websites-apps/fedora-websites/fedora-websites-3.0, where a gitlab user with owner or maintainer permissions can simply add another gitlab user and choose their permissions without it being linked necessarily to their FAS account or SAML permissions.

We are trying to change that. Please refer to https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure/issue/11320.
