#10501 Retire/Delete LXDE list
Closed: Fixed with Explanation 2 years ago by kevin. Opened 2 years ago by cwickert.

Due to $reallife, I'm no longer active in Fedora. I still own lxde@lists.fedoraproject.org though. The list is pretty much dead. Only two posts in 2019 and none in 2020 and 2021. Thus I'd like to retire the list.

What I did so far:

Now I would like to retire the list, means disable all list addresses (lxde-owner is spammed a lot) and disable subscription and moderation requests.

Can I just go ahead and delete the list in Postorius? The warning reads:

Are you sure you want to permanently delete this list?
All settings and membership data will be lost!

I think we still want to keep an archive of the list, but apart from that it should be retired completely. It's unlikely it will ever get revived since LXDE upstream is pretty much dead, too. Latest release of an LXDE component was a minor bugfix release of lxpanel almost a year ago. Most users and developers have moved on to LXQt.

Please let me know if I can delete the list or if we (you) need to do it manually.

I don't think we should delete, just keep it for historical reasons.

I have also:

  • Set it to not display by default on the list index (ie, links still work and you can search directly for it, but it won't show it to new users)
  • changed the list owner to 'nobody@fedoraproject.org' and removed you.

I think that should pretty much do it. :) If there's anything further you would like, let me know.

Thanks a lot Kevin, that should do.
