Chat Notification

Chat Notification Icon

The chat notification icon is in the upper right of every screen in Fedora Hubs. It gives you notifications if you have IRC private messages or mentions in IRC public channels that you have not yet viewed in the hubs web ui.

It indicates how many privmsgs / mentions you haven't seen via a numerical emblem in the upper right. The icon itself is a Fedora blue chat bubble shape.

Notification Icon Dropdown

The notification icon, if clicked, displays a list of both IRC mentions and IRC privmsgs. These are listed in order of how recent they are; most recent mentions/pms are at the top, the least at the bottom.

Public IRC channel mentions are right-aligned, with the libravatar of the person mentioning you (if available, if not, we can use a generic one) on the far right.

Private IRC channel mentions are left-aligned, with the libravatar of the person messaging you on the left. They are also marked "private" in bold and have a large colored arrow to indicate that they are private. The message content itself is italicized to further indicate privacy. (We want to try to minimize as much as possible any confusion between what is said publicly and privately!)

New / unread mentions/pms are listed in this dropdown with a white background. Old / already read mentions/pms are listed in this dropdown with a gray (#eff0f0) background.

Clicking On a Chat/Mention Item in the Dropdown

Click on a chat/mention item in the dropdown will take you to the screen in hubs where the chat/mention occurred.

If the notification you click on is for a private chat message, you'll be taken to the private chat area (you can also get there by clicking on "View All Chat Notifications") with the chat of interest preloaded and highlighted for you.

If the notification you click on is for a public chat mention, you'll be taken to the hub to which that chat is 'attached' with the chat widget's mention tab pre-opened for you and the specific mention you clicked on highlighted.
