#278 References "Fedora 21 and earlier"
Closed: moved 2 years ago by augenauf. Opened 3 years ago by augenauf.

In Docs, do we still need to document how stuff was done in Fedora 21 and earlier, 6 years ago?

Example: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/autoupdates/#fedora-21-or-earlier-versions

I suggest to remove that section completely (and consistently for all Docs)

@augenauf is Fedora 21 and earlier versions now obsolete?

I would say it’s obsolete- that’s why I opened the issue.

Okay. I'm currently working on another issue. When I finish with that I'll come back to this. I dropped this in case someone else wanted to work on it.

@augenauf should I also remove documentation for automatic update with yum since it's written with reference to fedora 21?

I am happy to do it to learn the process, however, I would only do it if there is consensus about this matter. Let's hear what others say...

Okay. I can test it on Fedora OS and if it works I'll include it :)

Are you saying you wish to work on this issue?

Yes, I can do it but I think it would be good to agree on the fact that we are removing information for Fedora < 21. Is that common sense already?

I think it's OK to remove information that doesn't apply to current releases in the quick-docs. (For release docs etc., I think the policy is to keep the older docs archived)

If we're looking for a consensus here, best to shoot a quick e-mail to the list asking for +1s, -1s. That gives everyone a chance to list any unintended consequences of the change.

One could also think about adding a note along the lines of "Requires Fedora NN+" to the top. That preserves the information that this is something that used to be different, while not cluttering the doc with information about releases that nobody should be using and very few people are.

I just opened #449 which cleans up most of the "or earlier/later" references, as well as references to "yum". Since it's a non-trivial change, I'll leave it open a few days for comment.

discussion and fixes to be conitnued in #449
