Hi @bt0dotninja, thanks for proposing a FWD event in México! :tada: I am +1 to approving this event request.

I would like to know what you plan to cover for the Women in Tech talk, or what kinds of things you plan to include, out of curiosity.

Your questions

Yes, this will be included in the resource pack (see below), but it is not yet prepared. In the meanwhile, it may be a good idea to start promoting it online, and we can support your efforts with design assets once available.

This is something we have discussed before – the short answer is no.

It would be great if you could find more women speakers for your session and to support them in participating in your event. A positive role model is helpful for underrepresented groups to see other people like themselves in leadership positions.

However, being a supportive male ally is also important, and if you are unable to locate or find more women speakers or organizers, we encourage you to be an ally and to support those who attend your event. Hopefully, at the end, it will inspire more women to get involved and participate in the future.

In the meanwhile, consider these points while you plan your event:

Resource pack

We plan to share a resource pack with FWD event organizers in early September.

The resource pack will include information on Fedora editions / objectives, content on Fedora <3 Python, and more. Once available, we encourage you to make use of it for your event.

Ideas for getting involved with Fedora

Please promote different ways to get involved and participate in the Fedora community.

When promoting the Fedora community, we encourage you to include other opportunities to contribute across Fedora. A great resource is whatcanidoforfedora.org. An overview of the different Fedora sub-projects is helpful to include. We plan to include other suggestions for this in the resource pack.

Participation metrics

Please collect participation metrics about the number of attendees and other information you think is useful.

We want to better understand how FWD events impact the local communities and Fedora. At a minimum, please note the number of attendees at your event. Other numbers may be useful depending on your event.

Some suggestions are…

  • Gender ratio of attendees
  • How many people are newcomers and how many people already are contributors / have a Fedora account
  • Badges earned by attendees during event (not including attendee badge)
  • Other ideas unique to your event and audience

Hi @jflory7 and Diversity team,

I would like to know what you plan to cover for the Women in Tech talk, or what kinds of things you plan to include, out of curiosity.

Mainly I'm asking for help to a group of linuxchix near to Mexico city [1] and a group of women scientists within my university [2], at this time without response. :disappointed_relieved:

If i don't get help i need to think quickly what to do

@bt0dotninja what is the status on this? Did you get any reply or do you have secondary plans?

Hi @amsharma ,

I'm don't get any reply yet, but now i have two backup plans

  • Getting data for the actual situation of the women in tech for the particular case of Mexico[1][2] and generate a descriptive presentation about the findings

  • Talk about the initiative "No sin Mujeres" (No without women)[3] and the need to extend it to science and technology field.

I think both talks are relevant

@bt0dotninja have you thought to contact Wikimedia Mexico? I have seen that they have organized Wiki Women Camp and they are part of Wiki mujeres - they are very active so probably they could join.

Given the earlier conversation and that @bt0dotninja is an active contributor, we will go ahead and approve the event since today is the acceptance deadline.

@bt0dotninja, keep working on possible collaboration opportunities where possible. Thanks for your interest in organizing a FWD, and good luck with the event! Let us know here in the ticket if you have any other questions or need any help.

Thank you for organizing your FWD event! On behalf of the Fedora D&I team, we hope it was a success. :tada: We have two updates for you:

Writing an event report

To close out your FWD event, please write an event report no more than three weeks from your FWD event date. Your event report should be published on the Fedora Community Blog, but a personal blog is also acceptable. Don't forget to include one to three pictures! :camera:

The Community Blog uses WordPress, so you can write and draft your article on the Community Blog site. If you need help, please reach out in this ticket.

Note: An event report is required to receive reimbursement for your event.

Getting reimbursed

Once your event report is published and you share a link to it in this ticket, you can request reimbursement for your event. To request reimbursement, open an issue here:

https://pagure.io/fedora-budget/new_issue

@bex will work with you to reimburse the costs of your event. Remember to save all original receipts for your event expenses.

See more information on the event reimbursement process.

And now published.

@bt0dotninja You can open a new ticket in fedora-budget with your receipts to request funding. I am closing this ticket as complete since all organizational requirements are met. :clapper:

Thanks again for being a part of FWD 2018 and helping organize an event!! It wouldn't be possible without all of our awesome community members around the world making these happen.
