#18 FWD 2019 Proposal - Bhubaneswar, India
Closed: complete 4 years ago by jonatoni. Opened 4 years ago by alishapapun.

Event logistics

  • Date: 26th November 2019
  • Location: Bhubaneswar, India
  • Organizer(s): Alisha Mohanty @alishapapun
  • First time organizing a FWD event?: Yes
  • Estimated number of attendees: 50

About your event

What kind of people do you expect to attend?
My target audience will be B.Tech students who are interested in contributing and getting started with Fedora. The event will be organised at my college (College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar). Majority of people will be Fedora newbies.

What do you plan to cover in the agenda for your FWD event?
The Objective of the event will be
How to contribute to free and open-source Softwares
Acknowledge the presence of Fedora as an open-source community
Internship opportunities in Fedora (GSoC / Outreachy)
Opportunities to contribute across Fedora (Resource: whatcanidoforfedora.org)

Are there any questions you have for the D&I Team?
I am planning to have a live video call during the FWD session, where some of the queries of the audience will be answered by someone from Fedora Community. I was thinking if @jflory7 will be able to find some time to attend the call on behalf of Fedora Community.

Anything you want us to know?
For the session, I will be needing 50 Fedora stickers and 40 Women in Fedora stickers. I was thinking if the swags could be shipped?

Budget request

  • Snacks(Pizza+Coke): $100 USD

  • FINAL TOTAL:

What is the address to ship the swags?

Can we have some hands-on included in agenda?

@tatica @jflory7 @bee2502 @jonatoni WDYT?

What is the address to ship the swags?

The address for shipment will be:

@alishapapun who will be speaking at the event?

@alishapapun who will be speaking at the event?

@jonatoni I will be the speaker.

@alishapapun aha, so you will not have additional speakers?

@alishapapun aha, so you will not have additional speakers?

Since the whole session will be Fedora centred, I think I will be the best fit for it. So I guess, I will be the only speaker. By the way, do we need multiple speakers?

@alishapapun nope, it is not a must, but would be great if you could be two speakers to share the topics :) If you cannot find someone else, it is fine to do it alone. That's why I asked if someone else would join you, even for a non-fedora related topic but speaking about free and open source contributions for example.

+1 from me :tada:

Hi @alishapapun, thanks for proposing a FWD event this year. :smile: I am +1 to the proposal but have a question and few points below.

My question is, what parts of Fedora do you think most interest your audience? This could be any part of Fedora or the community, but I'm curious what you think makes sense for your audience.

@alishapapun:
Acknowledge the presence of Fedora as an open-source community

One idea could be to add a Python component into the event. Fedora does love Python. :grinning: Perhaps someone also involved with PyLadies Bhubaneswar would be interested in giving a presentation on Python too?

It's one idea to spread the organizing and planning with other folks too. :)

@amsharma:
Can we have some hands-on included in agenda?

Maybe a Python component could be interactive? It also depends on the venue and resources available.

@amsharma:

@alishapapun:
The address for shipment will be:

Once the ticket is approved, swag is requested via a new fedora-budget ticket using the swag-request template. For privacy purposes, I edited the address out of this public ticket.

@alishapapun:
I was thinking if @jflory7 will be able to find some time to attend the call on behalf of Fedora Community.

I can make this work. I am figuring out other travel-related logistics for that week, but we can follow up closer to the session on details.

This has 3 acks. Moving it to approved.
Please open a ticket with https://pagure.io/fedora-budget/new_issue using the swag-request template. Good luck.

Sorry, for replying late @jonatoni . The event went awesome. How do you want the event report? Should I write a blog post for it?

@alishapapun Thanks for updating us here! I don't know if @bex or @riecatnor are handling reimbursements now. If you don't hear back soon in the Budget ticket, follow up here and we can help you figure it out if there are delays.

Once you confirm the reimbursement is complete in this ticket, we will close it out as complete. Thanks for organizing an event this year Alisha! :tada:

@alishapapun awesome report, thanks :tada:
