#931 Badge description: You met up with Fedora at the FOSSY in 2024!
Closed: pushed 4 months ago by gui1ty. Opened 9 months ago by rwright.

Badge description (like "You added a co-maintainer to a package. BFF!"):
- Visiting the Fedora people who will be around at FOSSY 24'.

Help the badges team understand what this idea is all about. If this badge is
awarded for certain kinds of activities:

1) What are those activities?
-Attendees to the conference. Not sure if Fedora will be present at this year's FOSSY.

2) Who is doing them (are they packagers? translators? newcomers? veterans?
users? sponsors?)
- To chat and engage in topics relevant to Fedora. Perhaps provide a QR code that links to the badge awarding site?

3) Why are they doing them (is this a means to a different end?)
- Once a year.

4) When do they do them (every day? once a year?)
- By visiting the FEdora Ambassadors at the event.

5) How do they do them (by talking in IRC? by running commands in the console?
by using a web interface?)
- Scanned in real life at FOSSY 24'

Lastly, do you have any ideas for artwork concepts?

According to a quick search, the event takes place Aug 1 - 4 (next week).

I'm no good at artwork...

Other conference badges seem to have a logo that tends to get near-directly put into a badge, whereas FOSSY sorta doesnt. maybe a spin on the SFConservancy's tree icon (https://2024.fossy.us/static/build/img/conservancy_logo_tall_mono.svg) along with the text FOSSY 2024 could be a good basis for a badge

I have pushed the badge:

https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/fossy-2024

and authorized @rwright. Please let me know if others need authorization as well.

Since the artwork has not yet been approved, I will leave this ticket open for now. If one of the designers could either approve or propose required changes, that would be great.

@gui1ty If possible I would also like authorization (fas: moralcode) as i will also be at the event, if thats okay/possible of course

Context about how I made the badge and why in case design team wants to review:

How i made it: this badge was made largely by copy pasting - i started with the FLOCK badge from last year, removed the flock logo, moved/resized the 2024, copied in the SFConservancy logo from an SVG, removed a bunch of bits from inside the tree, and added the FOSSY text in the same font as the 2024 to make it look cut-out from the conservancy logo.

It seems like a lot of other conference badges were just the conf logo + a year (fossy doesnt have a logo so i kinda made one per above).

Possible improvements:
- maybe to remove that horizontal line a the top of the tree trunk (i thought it would "support" the text but it maybe looks messy)
- maybe baking that text into a path, and not text
- im also not certain that the tree is perfectly centered but it looks good enough IMO (couldnt find the option in the new inkscape interface)

@gui1ty If possible I would also like authorization (fas: moralcode) as i will also be at the event, if thats okay/possible of course

Done. Have fun at FOSSY!

Oh! I think that looks awesome. This could indeed be dropped right into the badge.
