#803 Idea: "Podcaster"
Closed: pushed 2 years ago by computerkid. Opened 3 years ago by computerkid.

Badge description (like "You added a co-maintainer to a package. BFF!"):
- "You contributed to the Fedora Project Podcast!"

Help the badges team understand what this idea is all about. If this badge is
awarded for certain kinds of activities:

1) What are those activities?
- This badge would be awarded to contibuters of the Fedora Podcast(currently undergoing a rework in preparation for season 2)

2) Who is doing them (are they packagers? translators? newcomers? veterans?
users? sponsors?)
- community members, mostly contributors

3) Why are they doing them (is this a means to a different end?)
- To help people understand how the fedora project works in a new and exciting medium.

4) When do they do them (every day? once a year?)
- As many times as they wish

5) How do they do them (by talking in IRC? by running commands in the console?
by using a web interface?)
- Either by suggesting a topic and then we( @x3mboy and I ) agree to it, or by giving us some material, E.I. music

Lastly, do you have any ideas for artwork concepts?
- some sort of combination of the fedora icon and a pair of headphones. I believe we already have some artwork we could use.

Hey, I have an idea for this badge. Imagine a panda sitting on chair with a headphones on and talking with a radio microphone in front of him and a cup of coffee in his hand, with fedora logo on the cup.
If it is open, I would like to be assigned this issue. :)

I would love to see a mock-up, and if you are happy with it, I will totally assign this to you! I'm sorry it took me so long to get back around to this

If it's helpful, @somya23 , we have a dump of artwork you can use. https://pagure.io/fedora-podcast/blob/master/f/artwork is where we keep all the SVGs

@computerkid Okay, I'll prepare a rough sketch soon. :D

I like the second one, with the mic in the middle. On the color palette,
I'm not sure how I feel about that. How hard would it be to make a mock up
of an expanded color selection?

Overall, I think the second one is great, though I would like it if @x3mboy
would give his opinion too.

Oh no! I am so sorry! I had poked around and somehow never came upon this. Sorry that I opened this, I don't think that these two issues differ at all. I should probably close this then. My apologies @somya23

@computerkid No problem! I learnt a lot while making it. :D

A recent thing came up that made me realize this could still be useful. A fedora community member wrote us some music for the podcast, which is awesome. I feel that we should award him, maybe with a badge  but the interviewee badge is sort of limited. In addition I feel a general podcast contributer badge could be useful for those who maybe add content to our pagure, like @till .

I don't know whether it would be better to somehow expand the scope of the interviewee badge, or if that is possible, or if we should adjust THIS badge to be a contributor badge.
I think on the artwork side, we could take our existing artwork from @somya23 , and maybe add a paper, or a notebook, to indicate show notes.

@computerkid The idea seems interesting to me. How about making it a general badge for all contributors, as sometimes the content can be a mix and match of many formats. I thought of redesigning the panda with some creative objects such as a pencil, mic, paintbrush, notebook, etc flying above the head of the panda.
You might understand the thought behind my design after seeing these illustrations:
https://www.shutterstock.com/image-vector/kid-creativity-mindmap-brainstorm-vector-illustration-1648006870
https://flyclipart.com/spinning-top-royalty-free-vector-clip-art-illustration-spin-around-clipart-345655

@computerkid Also, I found that my earlier design could be used for this issue, as the ideas were a bit similar. https://pagure.io/fedora-badges/issue/798

So you're thinking of making it a general media contributor badge?

Wouldn't that overlap with certain badges for magazine, video, etc?

It's too bad we can't change the old badge

I thought that maybe when the community is confused or there is a lack of a specific badge for a task, this general contributor badge can be given, like this can be the first badge a new creator gets signifying their first contribution.

I do like that. Could maybe someone more experienced than me in badges
weigh in with their opinions?

@duffy @mleonova Might be able to give some guidance on this issue.
We will also have to look in the past issues if something similar is already being given.

Hi @computerkid @somya23 finally got a chance to catch up here!

Ok, so I think it would be great to have 3 badges for the podcast:
1. Podcast Interviewee - already done!
2. Podcast Host
3. Podcast contributor
What do you both think?

@somya23 thanks for working on this! here is some feedback on the artwork:
- Take a look at the style guide: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/badges/design-badges/
- The graphics we design go inside the inner bubble, we have only a couple designs that go "outside" of that area if it really makes sense to the badge. For this, I think the arms could potentially go outside that area, but the bottom of the panda should be cut off.
- Are you using strokes on your objects or two objects on top of each other? Right now it looks uneven, not sure how you are getting that but it should be an even stroke all around.
- The mic graphic is hard to read as is. Maybe trying grabbing the art from https://pagure.io/fedora-badges/issue/602 ?
- We have many panda paws in badges and none so far have paw pads. I think we should remove those to keep the art consistent.
- Their should be no stroke around the white of the panda tummy

Looking forward to what you come up with :)

@somya23 one more note, it looks like you are not using the template file-- make sure to use this and upload the pngs at the correct size 256px at 96dpi

This sounds super interesting, especially sense we are trying to get more hosts and do a rotation style of having different people on, and changing it between seasons, overall I really like this idea.
The Contributor one would be interesting for if we could we could incorporate into the art, the idea of saying that it's the hard behind the scenes work. Just an idea

Thanks for the feedback! I am still new to inkscape so there is a learning curve and I appreciate all the guidance that is being given. I will rectify and present the better versions soon. For the ideas that you have suggested, can I present simple pen and paper designs for the initial design process ? and then I can work further on it digitally.

It's fine with me!

@somya23 feel free to use whatever process works best for you :)

@computerkid @riecatnor Hey! I took your advice and designed the podcast contributor with the mic reference from the earlier designs. I am still working on the other two designs but I am not getting any specific inspiration as to how to differentiate them from the contributor one. Would it be better to add some text? I look forward to your feedback. 😍😄

Hey @mahnoor123 @somya23 great start, thanks for working on this! We have some art for this set of badges already here: https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/fedora-podcast-interviewee - the source files is here: https://pagure.io/fedora-badges/issue/602

For the podcast host I would recommend the following:
- Take the art from the interviewee badge https://pagure.io/fedora-badges/issue/602
- Remove the pink panda
- Enlarge the blue panda and center it
- Flip the speech bubble so it's facing the blue panda, and adjust size/spacing as needed

For the podcast contributor I would recommend the following:
- Take the art from this badge: https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/google-code-in-participant https://pagure.io/fedora-badges/issue/706
- Import badge art from ticket 602 from badges
- Replace the logo on the t-shirt with the mic from badge 602

By using these designs it will help your badges stay closer to the Fedora/badge aesthetic. Looking forward to your results!

I agree with @riecatnor . The host badge should be showing just one Panda, to differentiate from the interviewee. The contributor one does not need a mic, as it is supposed to be a backend contribution thing.

I agree! Number 4 looks GREAT as a contributor badge!

Sorry, typo, I meant number 4

Hi @somya23 & @mahnoor123 you both did great!

@somya23 number 4 looks great :) artwork approved

@mahnoor123 this looks great! I have a few small adjustments for you to bring it to completion:
- The fedora logo is looking a little cramped, can you make the speech bubble a little bigger? I don't think the logo should be any smaller than what it is now. You can move the bubble closer to the right side if needed
- The panda arm in the front is making things confusing somehow, in the interviewee badge, it is cut off by the table, and I think that might help. I would suggest making the panda a little bit bigger, and moving it down behind the table a little bit
- Be careful when you export, it should be 256x256 pixels

I love it! I think this is coming along VERY well.

@riecatnor thanks for the approval!😍😄

Thanks @mahnoor123 and @somya23 ! You've both been awesome. I'm going to push these badges now, and we can start giving them.

@somya23 Could I get the SVG file for podcast contributor 4.0 please?
