#788 Idea: "I Tested IoT Hardware!"
Opened 4 years ago by coremodule. Modified 2 years ago

Badge description (like "You added a co-maintainer to a package. BFF!"):
-Something like "I Tested IoT Hardware!"

Help the badges team understand what this idea is all about. If this badge is
awarded for certain kinds of activities:

1) What are those activities?
-This badge would be awarded by the IoT SIG to a tester who runs Fedora IoT on discrete hardware.

2) Who is doing them (are they packagers? translators? newcomers? veterans?
users? sponsors?)
-Anyone can test Fedora, be them young, old, new to the project, or well-seasoned developers.

3) Why are they doing them (is this a means to a different end?)
-People are testing Fedora IoT to find bugs and issues that can be corrected so that the end product is of a higher quality.

4) When do they do them (every day? once a year?)
-Fedora IoT can be tested whenever a user wants to; there is no timeline.

5) How do they do them (by talking in IRC? by running commands in the console?
by using a web interface?)
-Generally by following pre-written test-cases that guide a user through the proper steps to run whichever test is being undertaken. This can be in the GUI or in the text-interface.

Lastly, do you have any ideas for artwork concepts?
-Many devices that run Fedora IoT are caseless single-board computers, so perhaps the Fedora mascot holding a circuit board? Something like that.

How about "Advancing the Edge"? Or something more cutesy?

@mattdm, Yes! That sounds much better than "I Tested IoT Hardware", lol. I'm +1 for that or like you said, something along those lines.

Just another suggestion, "Livin' Life on the Edge!"?

"Advancing the Edge" sounds good, +1

I like "Livin' Life on the Edge" -- fits the silliness of a lot of badge themes -- but I like "advancing" for the testing thing. Maybe we can use "Livin' Life on the Edge" for another IoT badge?

Completely concur

+1 for "Advancing the Edge"!

Hello!
Here is my first attempt at a badge creation.
I included the phrase 'Advancing the edge' in the badge itself. Not sure if it's the right way.
Added circuit networks in the bracket to connect with the theme.
The panda is examining a piece of hardware.
Would love to know what you think about this @riecatnor :))

I have followed all the guidelines wrt sizes and the formats, so I hope that's correct here! Have exported it in 4x for the purpose of review though.

Hey! I designed this badge using a little help from the earlier badges.
I thought the best way to represent "Advancing the Edge" would be on a mountain peak with the character feeling happy and proud holding their achievement. I made a cute motherboard/circuit to represent IOT hardware and as it is a testing badge, I gave most of the badge colors, shades of green. I hope you like it!
😁😍

Hi folks, thanks for your work on this :) comments below

@yavnikaa nice concept! I have some notes for your next draft:
- Make sure to use the template with no alterations to the template objects and to export at 256x256 pixels.
- Because the badges are viewed at a small size we don't include text often, or we try to keep it very simple. I think the concept you have is strong enough with out the text (and it will accompany the badge on the site, so it would be a bit redundant)
- Center your panda, and since the perspective seems to be looking down from above, I think you could round the edge of the table a bit to help it look a bit more natural?
- Is that graphic a turn table? :) maybe adjust/add in elements to make it look like a circuit board?

@somya23 very nice work! I like the artwork from this comment best: https://pagure.io/fedora-badges/issue/788#comment-728393 no changes necessary :)

@dhairya15 nice work, I like the last draft best :) I think my only note would be on the orange of the background, it is quite saturated and causing some vibration with the objects in the foreground. I would try adjusting the tones to be less saturated or perhaps even just reduce the bg opacity?

Looking forward to the next drafts for those working on them! I would like folks working here to finish their designs to completion before we choose which to use :)
