#704 New badge for closing pagure issues
Opened 4 years ago by dan1mal. Modified a year ago

Badge description (like "You added a co-maintainer to a package. BFF!"):
- You closed a pagure issue. You closed 50 pagure issues. You closed 100 pagure issues.

Help the badges team understand what this idea is all about. If this badge is
awarded for certain kinds of activities:

1) What are those activities?
- Got the idea for this badge after watching @riecatnor hammer the badges pagure during the hackathon. A one-woman ticket cleaner. To be awarded when a user closes a pagure issue, to encourage people to close out old tickets and keep a tidy pagure issue list. Somehow, it feels less overwhelming when there arent pages of old tickets.

2) Who is doing them (are they packagers? translators? newcomers? veterans?
users? sponsors?)
- Users, veterans.

3) Why are they doing them (is this a means to a different end?)
- Encourages people to look at tickets that are sitting in queue and really think about whether they are doable, or if they are already finished, to close them. If they are not finished, it may encourage people to startup the discussion about them.

4) When do they do them (every day? once a year?)
- All year.

5) How do they do them (by talking in IRC? by running commands in the console?
by using a web interface?)
- Closing a ticket in pagure.

Lastly, do you have any ideas for artwork concepts?
- A panda sitting and looking at a piece of paper with files on one side, a trash can on the other and scattered papers around it.

Nice idea :100:. This is also relatively easier in comparison to the Pagure commit badges.

This is a really fun idea! Wondering how we should categorize: development, community, quality, content, miscellaneous? Any thoughts?

Off the top of my head, I might suggest quality, since the goal is to encourage more issues from each of the pagures to be looked at and worked on. Not sure if it will actually encourage more people to help, or if the ones that work the most actively will collect the badges

Here's my first iteration @riecatnor :D
I took your suggestion and simplified it so that it doesn't feel cluttered. I was thinking of increasing the number of pages for higher numberings.
What do you think? How can I improve this design? Because right now I think it might be too simple.
(Also, I made the panda from scratch, so there might be some imperfections there too. Let me know and I'll work on it :) )
Thanks!

@smeragoel hmmmmm, yes, there is something lacking right now to the design. What about doing something with the Pagure logo? OHMYGOODNESS I just looked up pagure, and it means hermit crab. What about a cartoon looking hermit crab on the beach? Maybe the crab is piling up seashells :P or keep it simple, just add in the numbering and we can go from there... thoughts?

That sounds great! The pagure logo also makes sense now lol. I'll make a couple of designs for this with the hermit crab. I guess it's time to add a new member to the Fedora Animal Mascot Family!

@smeragoel omg how did I miss these, adorable!! I have a few recommendations to make the artwork more "badge-y":
- Right now things are kind of blending together, I think the design needs the contrast turned up. What if we gave it a fedora colored shell?? a rad crab!
- Edit the horizon to look like sand- right now it is totally flat, and looks a bit unnatural. Give it some ridges and dips
- The shell is adorable but verryyyy small and has a lot of details. I would enlarge this, and the crab a bit too :) You might also want to make the shell design more simple to make it look less busy.
Looking forward to the next draft!

HI @dhairya15 nice work :) I have a couple recommendations:
- Change the color of that crab shell to a fedora color as well :)
- Give the horizon some hills and dips, right now it is completely flat and it looks unnatural.
- I think the pattern doesn't fit too well with this design either (because this is more of a full illustration, versus an object with a patterned background). You could give it some shadows or highlights depending on the color you choose (this one seems a bit dull and it is blending with the crab)
- I also noticed this will be a badge series, so please add in some numbering as well
Looking forward to your next draft!

Hi @meghasharma thanks for starting work here! Some feedback for you:
- You are probably tired of hearing this from me, lol, but please do adhere to the template. The exported pngs do not have the correct padding around the badge
- This design looks like a full illustration to me, so I think you can omit the wavy lines pattern here
- I think your crab is a little small, increase that a bit to take up more of the space in the design area
- I would suggest using some Fedora colors for the crab shell, maybe blue or the Fedora green that is used in the outer ring? You may need to adjust the color of the crab based on this
- The sand area is a nice color, tho I think that it looks a bit unnatural as it is a very straight line at the top of that object.. I would add some subtle variation in there to make it feel a bit more natural
- Simplify the seashells a bit, remember these are being viewed at a small size and the details will be hard to read at that size.. remove the number of lines, maybe make them a bit bigger, and increase the stroke size
- The color of the lettering is distracting from the crab, but I am not sure if the pattern below is causing that or not? you might try playing with the color combination here. Blue on blue might be difficult to get a nice balance. You might try moving the numbering to the sand?

Looking forward to your next draft!

Hi @smeragoel @riecatnor! Let me know what do you think of this version. I've tried giving depth to sand by adding sea in the background, increased the size of crab. I'm unsure of the shells, lemme know how they appear to you. Lastly I'm confused about the color of the numbering (green or blue).
