#678 You're a member of the Neuro Fedora SIG
Closed: pushed 4 years ago by jflory7. Opened 5 years ago by lbazan.

Badge description (like "You added a co-maintainer to a package. BFF!"):
- Being a member of Neuro Fedora SIG
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/NeuroFedora

Help the badges team understand what this idea is all about. If this badge is
awarded for certain kinds of activities:

1) What are those activities?
- The NeuroFedora SIG's goal is to provide neuroscience researchers (and enthusiasts!) a strong, easy to use, ready-made FOSS platform for their work.

2) Who is doing them (are they packagers? translators? newcomers? veterans?
users? sponsors?)

  • Mostly Packagers

3) Why are they doing them (is this a means to a different end?)
- They contribute to Fedora by providing packages to the Neuro Fedora. They are interested in developing Neuro Fedora SIG Spin.

4) When do they do them (every day? once a year?)
- They are constantly talking about the improvement of Neuro Fedora for neurosience in fedora.
Badge is given once they join the SIG neuro-sig.

5) How do they do them (by talking in IRC? by running commands in the console?
by using a web interface?)
- #fedora-neuro
- Telegram supergroup here: https://t.me/NeuroFedora
- Pagure https://pagure.io/group/neuro-sig

Lastly, do you have any ideas for artwork concepts?
-I am attaching the logo.

NeuroFedoraLogo01.png

We have other versions of the logo here too: https://pagure.io/neuro-sig/NeuroFedora/blob/master/f/Artwork

The badge will be used to reward any community members that contribution to NeuroFedora: we're working on getting more folks involved in non-packaging roles as well :clap:

@duffy Hey I'd be happy to work on this badge! :D
Do we need any text or visuals other than the NeuroFedora logo and header on the badge?

@tanvi thanks! :-)

@ankursinha I think only the logo in the badge its ok?

Cheers,

The logo would do very well indeed, but please feel free to experiment with visuals and text---we're really not design people ourselves :smile:

Would it be very hard to make a terminator style panda with half their brain sticking out or something, for example? :panda_face:

That is awesome. I had only half jokingly said it :laughing:

I'm quite happy with this personally, but if there was any chance of a tweak---could we incorporate a brain (or brain like thing) in there somewhere? It'll just make it slightly more neurosciencey. We don't want the machine learning/AI SIG turning up to claim our panda :smile:

Two is even better. I wish we could use both.

@tanvi @blackfile : any ideas on how we could combine the two? The first is a lot of fun and will be extremely important in getting new folks to join us and maintain a fun atmosphere like the rest of the community. The second, on the other hand has the brain bit that makes the relation to neuro-things nice and clear?

@ankursinha Hey there! I really liked @blackfile 's version too! :D One way of incorporating the two is that we can put the lightbulb as a Eureka moment? I'm not sure though :P
Here's a quick iteration I made. Though I think it's getting a bit crowded and the brain element is getting a bit lost? Let me know your thoughts about it :D

NeuroFedora.png
NeuroFedora.svg

Looks great! I really like it!

Yeh, if you think it's too crowded, what do you think of removing the bulb and letting our terminator panda simply have their brain in their hand :laughing: ? Gives it a more terminator/zombie feel, and puts the brain clearly in focus?

@lbazan @blackfile ^ what do you think?

@ankursinha, waoo it looks great! , but @tanvi is right, the main logo is being lost, I'm going to try some options

what if we loose the light bulb?

I'm very very happy with that! Good for me if the others think that's OK too!

Hello! What can we do to help the badge go "live" please? :clap:

Hi @duffy @riecatnor Is this badge from @tanvi / @blackfile its ok?

and what is the next step to push?

Cheers,

Would it be possible to give the badge to anyone that is a member of or is added to the neuro-sig group on Pagure? That group includes all our contributors---packages, designers, everyone (so the neuro-sig group on FAS is a subset of the pagure group).

https://pagure.io/group/neuro-sig

If that can be done, we won't have to give the badge manually.

This appears to be possible, based on the rules directory. It isn't clear if the badge gets awarded automatically to those already in the group or not, so I suggest whomever pushes this make a manual award, when this is approved.

Hi @bex

Neuro Sig have a FAS group I suggest any person added in this group receive the badge.

Cheers,

@lbazan: Ah, no. I was suggesting anyone in the pagure group receive the badge. This includes people in FAS group (the FAS group is a packager group only so we can't add others to it unless they are sponsored packagers) and everyone else that works on NeuroFedora---we already have the design folks that have done our artwork there, for example :)

@ankursinha +1

Cheers,

@ankursinha If you want to do thsi by Pagure group, you'll need to either figure out the rule or find a rule that you can copy. The only other option is to do this by hand. Unfortunately, no one has volunteered to contribute these rules.

Sure, we can start by giving it out manually while we figure the rule out, if that's OK?

I filed this so we can work on it: https://pagure.io/neuro-sig/NeuroFedora/issue/250

@ankursinha yes, we can do that. The badge artwork needs to be approved.

@duffy @riecatnor : would you be able to look at the artwork when you have a few minutes to spare please?

Hello, could we have a look at this ticket please? We'd like to start awarding this badge manually for the time being.

NeuroFedora3.pngNeuroFedora3.svg

Thanks @riecatnor --- Looks very good to me!! :clap:

Thanks @riecatnor ! :thumbsup: :smile:

Hello,

What would the next step here be? Is there anything we can help with please?

Cheers!

Hello---ping. Can we help move this along please? :)

This can't be pushed until design approves it - they mark it ready to push. @riecatnor is your proposal a complete design?

Hi there, another ping---can we have an ETA (even if it is 2-3 months) so we can stop pinging the ticket please? :)

Hi @riecatnor

Can you help us finish the process of this badge?

Cheers,

We already have more contributors and we want to reward them for their work and time.
There is nothing better than a badge to recognize their work.

We are few but the team is growing.
:-)

Cheers,

@lbazan & @ankursinha sorry for the delay. Setting artwork to approved :)

@riecatnor Hello!

What is the next step to complete the Neuro badge process?

Cheers,

cc:
@ankursinha
@blackfile

Hi @riecatnor If you agree @ankursinha can assign it manually.

Cheers,

@lbazan sure, @ankursinha can assign it manually

That's great. Thanks!

Has the badge been "added" to badges (or what do we do to get that done)? A search for "neuro" doesn't return anything at the moment. Also, how does one give people badges manually? I didn't find any docs on the badges docs.fp.o page.

Cheers!

I added in the ready-to-push tag, we can ping @sayanchowdhury or @jflory7 to get it onto the site when they have some time :) It will be awarded manually by @ankursinha

To award a badge manually, you do it from the specific badges page on badges.fedoraproject.org. A field is generated for those with permissions to award to manually award. The FAS account names are entered into that field.

That sounds great. Thanks. We'll wait for @sayanchowdhury or @jflory7 to import it and then start giving it out :)

:clap:

Badge is now pushed: https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/neurofedora-sig-member

It was added to the fedora-badges repo in commit d6ef4c9, along with an automated rule file. The rule file will automatically award the badge to anyone added to the neuro-sig FAS group.

Additionally, I added a FAS-to-Badge mapping in the Fedora Infrastructure ansible.git repo that will award the badge to anyone who is already in the group. This fix is run once a day around 13:25 (UTC?), so anyone who is currently in the group should get the badge in about a day:

https://infrastructure.fedoraproject.org/cgit/ansible.git/commit/?id=15d0efd3615de4f350c8c4c769394391fc60ccb6

If there are any issues, please follow up in this ticket, or for a faster response, #fedora-badges / @fedorabadges. Thanks for being patient all!

Closing as pushed. :clapper:
