#641 Keep it 100
Closed: declined a year ago by riecatnor. Opened 5 years ago by riecatnor.

Badge description (like "You added a co-maintainer to a package. BFF!"):
- You ran a $100 fedora party - or you attended a $100 Fedora party - maybe two badges?
- This idea generated at Badges lightning talk at Flock 2018

Help the badges team understand what this idea is all about. If this badge is
awarded for certain kinds of activities:

1) What are those activities?
- You ran/attended a $100 Fedora party

2) Who is doing them (are they packagers? translators? newcomers? veterans?
users? sponsors?)
- Anyone!

3) Why are they doing them (is this a means to a different end?)
- Organizer: to promote Fedora
- Attendee: to learn about Fedora

4) When do they do them (every day? once a year?)
- Occasionally

5) How do they do them (by talking in IRC? by running commands in the console?
by using a web interface?)
- In person event

Lastly, do you have any ideas for artwork concepts?
- variation on the "100" emoji
- 100 dollar bill with a panda/badger on it

I didn't hear this lightning talk, but this sounds like the Advocate program (which has badges in progress) and release parties that also already have badges. What is the value of yet another set of badges here?

@bex the idea here I believe is to promote people to organize/run/attend these $100 dollar parties. I had not heard of them before the lightning talk, and am transcribing the ideas from that talk to tickets for open discussion.

Maybe, if we did want to do this badge, it would not apply for a release parties, or any other standard events(FWDs, FADs), and only new/different events? Do we have reason to run "new" events of that nature? Are there existing events of that are not standard and if so what are they?
One of the reasons why we try not to go overboard on event badges is because they can be exclusionary. That being said-- running a $100 dollar Fedora event could be just the thing to bring events to people/places that are unable to travel regularly and give them a chance to also earn event badges.

On another note- there is a lot of back and forth on what we do and don't want to do regarding badges/events. I think it would be helpful to brainstorm and finalize some standards/regulations regarding event badges with the input from leadership, design, and development side.

I feel like the advocate badge will be for the organizers and we can do event badges that are themed for the events. I am worried that the "$100" emphasis drives thought to cost, not topic.

These events will be meetups and on various, often unrelated, topics.

Why not do a generic "fedora meetup" badge for those events?

+1 - based on #642 we should do an email to hte badges list. Can you start this with your ideas?

@bex @mleonova we discussed this idea in the badges design meeting, and we think a generic meetup badge is a great idea. Concept for art would be some combination of these two:
https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/better-together
https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/lets-have-a-party-fedora-21
Would be nice to come up with a different clever name but simply "Meetup" can work too :)

Hi @mbachi checking in here :) let me know if you need help

hi @mbachi great first shot at designing badges! Here are some thoughts on how to improve:

Let's start there :) I look forward to your next draft! Thanks

Hi @mbachi I like the direction the first one is going, the panda with the balloon. I think it might need a background. And since there is just one panda, I would increase the size. Try those two changes and re-upload :) thanks!

Hi @riecatnor ,This is Surender.I have a idea about 100$ Fedora party badge.
1. If we put 100$ tag or ticket on balloon (or on the panda's/badger's hand) for
attendent of a $100 Fedora party (in above badge design by @mbachi ).
2. For the organiser badge of $100 fedora party , an idea like a panda stand in front of organiser and organiser is issuing party tickets.
reference design

https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/sistine-badgers-badge-artist-iv

3.Can I edit text and write 100$ Fedora Party and Also use the 100$ Dollar tickets emoji/stikers on the party help desk or in the hand of organiser something like that.
Dollar emoji https://favpng.com/png_view/vector-take-money-villain-emoji-united-states-dollar-emoticon-smiley-png/eddZ8Maq

Party Organiser reference badge
https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/the-panda-is-in
4. Lastly I can mixup/combine all the reference badges above and also draw a dollar emoji ticket for attendentent of party.
So, @riecatnor If you understand my idea please give me this task.I will be happy to work on it.
Thanks

Hi @surender786 you can absolutely work on this badge. Please make sure to read all of the comments on the ticket, though. In this comment: https://pagure.io/fedora-badges/issue/641#comment-526611 and the one following we decided to move away from the $100 concept to a general meetup up badge. Based on this I think you may want to come up with some new concepts :)

HI @leena_harani thanks for starting work on this one :) A couple notes for you:
- I see you started with the release party art, but I am afraid it looks too close to that one with all the same elements. You could try changing the colors of things.
- Make sure to use the Fedora color palette for the pandas, I think the green you used is a different green from the badges palette
- The pandas in the background are quite small, and it makes them hard to see. I think the original art probably had some at this size, though that design they are all packed in to make the look of a "party". You could remove some, or try to add some that are in between the two sizes.
- Also, looking back at the description for this.. it is awarded to the person organizing the event. So you could really go a different direction with this entirely, something more like this: https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/commops-superstar with some changes to make sense for this badge concept
Sorry I think I put a lot of different ideas out there- I look forward to seeing which way you decide to go :)

Hi @riecatnor , this caught my attention and I decided to try my hands on it. I looked through the previous corrections and added an extra touch to come up with this badge design. I hope you like it :). I’m open to corrections, pls review thank you!.

@pearlnwashili Hey, love your design but I wanted to note something: in the previous discussion in this thread, it was decided to move away from the "100" design and instead just make it a party design. Refer to https://pagure.io/fedora-badges/issue/641#comment-526611 and the comment after it for more information.

Hey @leena_harani thank youu! :) and thanks for bringing this to my attention, but I noticed it was “$100” and not “100” that was mentioned earlier so it’s not exactly laying emphasis on the cost. Also, I was thinking of an element to make this badge “ticket-specific “ as it started looking really similar to some other event/ meetup badges. Please @riecatnor advise accordingly, thank you.

Hey peeps! Ok, I needed to review this badge again in its entirety, and I think we need to refocus on the concept. Based on the changes in the world and how we run events nowadays, let's move towards this:
This badge will be earned for organizing a Fedora meetup (virtual or in person).

@leena_harani I think you are getting close with the "2nd_Design" version. A couple recommendations:
- Move the disco ball to one side or the other. and make it a bit bigger
- Enlarge your panda a bit
- Add in a highlight or a stroke to the hat? it is looking a little flat compared to the other objects in the design

@pearlnwashili that panda looks like it's having a great time :D based on the clarified concept, I would rework the design a bit.
- We aren't going with the "100" theme
- Try to add something to highlight the organizing aspect

Looking forward to the next drafts! Thank you!

Hi @riecatnor thanks for the review. Below is an updated version of the badge design, I tried to add a few elements based on the corrections you made; I gave the panda a dance buddy, he was looking a bit lonely :( . For the organizing aspect, I wasn’t sure what to settle with and so I did two versions of the design. Please let me know which works, I’m anticipating your feedback. Thank you!! :)

Hi @anoushkad thanks for jumping in here. A couple notes:
- Make sure not to take any more badge tickets on until you finish what you are working on now :)
- Make sure to use the badge template correctly, I have left directions in previous comments.
- I think you have some nice elements here. They aren't all matching tho, in the sense that your objects in front have a similar stroke, the balloon has a light stroke and the disco ball has no stroke. I would suggest adding a stroke and making the stroke weight mix well with the objects you have in front.
- I like the clipboard, but right now it looks like someone stuck it on the pandas shoulder hehe. Try to play with that shape to make it look like the panda is holding it, I would lower it a bit more too so you can see the panda shoulder.

Hi @anoushkad nice work! a couple notes:
- Something is going on with that badge template still :) refer to the comment I left on ticket #807
- I think you could add a pattern onto the hat, but right now it is kind of hard to tell what is going. I would use less circles and maybe convert them to dots of a different color(s)?
- The paw on the left side looks like a darker color than the rest of the stroke used on the panda?
- I would readjust your elements a bit so that the panda is not overlapping with the disco ball
- Since you have the discoball in there, you could play with the background colors for the design as well.. maybe try some darker blues or greys to make it stand out?
Thanks!

Hi @riecatnor , keen eye on the paw colour, haha! I made some changes, do you like this better? Please help me with the alignment of background elements if that is incorrect, right now I am placing them manually so I think there is possibility for misplacement...
