#637 Problem Solver
Opened 6 years ago by riecatnor. Modified a year ago

Badge description (like "You added a co-maintainer to a package. BFF!"):
- You solved someone's discussion on discourse

Help the badges team understand what this idea is all about. If this badge is
awarded for certain kinds of activities:

1) What are those activities?
- Solving a discussion on discourse

2) Who is doing them (are they packagers? translators? newcomers? veterans?
users? sponsors?)
- anyone!

3) Why are they doing them (is this a means to a different end?)
- to help develop solutions for community issues/problems/topics using discourse

4) When do they do them (every day? once a year?)
- anytime

5) How do they do them (by talking in IRC? by running commands in the console?
by using a web interface?)
- by "solving" a discussion on discourse https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/

Lastly, do you have any ideas for artwork concepts?
- crow in a heroic pose- maybe with a cape?

@terezahl this is an awesome start! I think the elements are a bit too small to translate well at the size they are usually shown. Maybe try focusing in on the badgers from the waist up? I am not sure the colors on the background are working. Since we don't have any discourse badges yet its up for experimentation.. I don't mind the blue either, maybe just play around with the rays versus the background colors/contrast. Thanks for your work :)

Here's my first iteration. I tried making the contents from scratch, as read in the above comments i made a crow with a cape. Although i was not sure about the color of the cape but so made it blue.

Then i thought if decreasing the size of the character and contents a bit and changed the background for better color enhancement. The stroke of the contents is between 1.8-1.9, increasing it even more was reducing the fill color of the content so i did not increase it much

Hello again @smeragoel @riecatnor - I drew a crow for discourse badge https://pagure.io/fedora-badges/issue/636 and if you like that, I could make it in several poses, so feel free to assign this or any crow character issue to me, or for anyone who'd like to work on this, you could use my sketch as a starting point as it took me a while to make it from scratch anyway :D

Hi @smeragoel @riecatnor ! Hope you're having a great day! Can I work on this issue? I'm an outreachy may 2023 applicant.

Hi @meghasharma yes, go ahead :) Since there are many applicants, no need to ask for permission to start working on a ticket that is marked "outreachy-2023". Please do limit yourself to 3 at a time though.

Thanks for the confirmation!
If I got it right then it means I can work on 3 badges at a time including if I'm waiting for the feedback on any of it. Only after any one gets approved I can work on my 4th one? So that would again back to be 3 open issues at a time.

Hi @riecatnor @smeragoel! Taking inspiration from @/anoushkad's design I added few elements in the badge, instead of using black color for crow's body, since we don't use black in badge designs, I've used shades and hues of grey. To give it a heroic point of view, I tried experimenting with sunglasses.
Looking forward to feedback so that I can improve the design if required.
Thanks!

Hi @meghasharma I know we had a chance to review this in the office hours, but thought I'd leave some notes here on the ticket as well

  • The elements are blending together some, the sunglasses are blending in because they are dark blue on top of the dark grey
  • The purple cape is blending in a bit, but its a nice color, so I would advise to increase the stroke. I would also work with the shape of the cape to give it a natural feel
  • I think that is a branch the crow is standing on, I would suggest making it a bit more natural looking, giving it some variation in widths
  • I think we can make this badge into a series, so add in some numbering.. you can start with just one variation and once we finalize the design we can work on creating the badges with the other numbers

Looking forward to your next draft!

Hi @smeragoel @riecatnor! I worked upon the feedback. I've tried adhering to the badge theme, edited the cape and branch to give it a more natural look and added numbering too. Let me know what do you think of this version and how it can be improved.
