#585 Fedora Respins Tester
Closed: pushed 4 years ago by nb. Opened 7 years ago by jbwillia.

Badge description (like "You added a co-maintainer to a package. BFF!"):
-You helped test the Fedora Respins!

Help the badges team understand what this idea is all about. If this badge is
awarded for certain kinds of activities:

1) What are those activities?

testing isos for the Fedora-Respins SIG

2) Who is doing them (are they packagers? translators? newcomers? veterans?
users? sponsors?) Anyone that wants to help
-

3) Why are they doing them (is this a means to a different end?)

Help Test the updated isos from the Fedora-Respins Sig and sign off on the spin in a google doc matrix

4) When do they do them (every day? once a year?)
Only counts when we are testing for a new release

5) How do they do them (by talking in IRC? by running commands in the console?
by using a web interface?)
-Download the isos from our builders, test that they work as live either in vm or on real hardware and/or as installed

Lastly, do you have any ideas for artwork concepts?
-at this point no and i am thinking of awarding this badge for first time helping and at 10, 20 , 30, 40 , 50
jbwillia will be the awarding person

@jbwillia Isn't it possible to automate this badge? Not in for of awarding manually.

@sayanchowdhury The testing is currently tracked in google docs spreadsheets, so there's no way to award with fedmsg. @jbwillia will coordinate awarding the badges, I am also involved with respins and can back him up if he needs help.

Here's an initially idea with series #5 as an example, but once the design is approved I can create the rest of the series.
PNG

SVG

Approved

Here's the design with all of the series numbers on them. But do we have the stamp of approval from @riecatnor @mleonova ?

@maryshak1996 thanks for getting this one started! @mleonova and I reviewed this in the badges meeting and we have some input to help make this design more successful.

Our first thought is, wow, green! Maybe too much :P please try a different bg color. As far as we can tell, there is no established color for respin testing, so play around to find something you think works. Maybe yellow?

That should help resolve the arrows - they are getting lost with the green on green. Thicken up the outlines on these so they pop. Depending on what color you choose for the bg, you may consider making the object white, and the outline a color.

The clipboard/pen are running into a similar issue. The white outline is tough to pull off. The shape/outlines are good, but right now they are getting a bit lost. Maybe play around with diff colors for outline/stroke and see what you get.

Thanks again! Looking forward to seeing the next version :)

Hi @riecatnor and @mleonova :) I updated the background color to make it a bit less heavy on the green, made the outlines a bit thicker. I think that the white outlines stand out a bit better now, but I can the stroke colors too if you want. I just made the changes to the "1" series, and I can update the rest to match once I get a stamp of approval

so what do we need at this point to move forward ?
I really would like to start advertising this award as well as awarding

@jbwillia as soon as artwork is ready, we'll approve it and get it pushed. We'll review it next Wednesday.

@maryshak1996, this is an improvement!

Something is up with the colors, they are clashing right now. I think one way to help that out is by making the bg a bit lighter and the rays on the bg way brighter, see --> https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/flock-2014-organizer

The pen and the clipboard are smooshing together with the white outlines. Can you try a version with dark grey outlines instead? Not 100% sure that will do it... mleonova and I think all the components needed are here, just play around a bit more with colors and composition. Focus on readability and clarity of the design.

Thanks @maryshak1996 !! Looking forward to the next round :)

i liked the first ones better myself

@maryshak1996 @mleonova - I wanted to play around with these colors first hand so I grabbed the SVG and played around. Is this working a bit better?

@maryshak1996 , when I downloaded your file, I noticed the object for the badge graphics is off from the templates. Make sure you are careful not to make any changes to the basic structure of the badge - may be best to re-download the templates to make sure you're on track moving forward :)

I am -1 on awarding this badge manually. @jbwillia Isn't there a fedmsg message to automate this process?

Setting artwork to approved

@sayanchowdhury The testing is tracked in a Google Docs spreadsheet. There are no fedmsg for that. If @jbwillia wants to award it manually, why not let him?

@nb I have no issues. Just the fear of someone not missing the badge. It's always good if things are automated if possible.

@mleonova I see the updated resources for only 1 badge in the series. Can we update all the badges in the series.

@maryshak1996 @riecatnor we need other badges for the series, please :)

@nb and @jbwillia Can you add information somewhere (um not sure where) how one can earn this badge? I have been a fan of respins for a long time as I found them useful where Internet data limit and speed is important. Since last few Fedora releases I have been using respins at least once after GA for my own testing and for F27 I used it now twice.

Hi, i would like to take this up! @nb @riecatnor. Will be happy to make the rest of the series.
- Also, as far as I can figure out, the approved design is from @riecatnor 's last message with subtle grey outlines.
- Can I play with the background too, or do I need to focus on getting the series only?

hi @grlwholifts awesome, thank you! The only thing needed here is to make changes to the numbering, and upload svg's and png's here :)

@riecatnor, attaching the template for 10 series. Let me know if this works. I had to adjust the kerning, and positions a little but to accomodate the 10 which is taking up more space than 1. I did not rather reduce the size of 10 because I suppose, it is the in-focus thing for this badge. However, if there is another approach for this, do let me know!

@grlwholifts this looks good, just the sizing is off. I discovered through some comparisons that the style guide is incorrect. When exporting the template, it is 256x256px at 96 dpi. Keeping the text the same size is best, although sometimes there is no option but to reduce in size.

@grlwholifts now ya got it! Looks good, go ahead and make the rest of the series :)

Hi @riecatnor , attaching all the files from 10-50 series for Respins Tester. Let me know if they work!

@jbwillia @nb are we still tracking the badge through the spreadsheet?

@sayanchowdhury Yes, still the tracking for the test matrix is being kept track of in a Spreadsheet.
