#130 Vacation page hard to understand
Closed: Fixed None Opened 9 years ago by oget.

The calendar application used in the Vacation page [1] is not clear about its purpose.

It gave me the feeling that the actual calendar application was designed to hold a schedule of meetings of a group of people, but in this page, it is being used outside of its intended design. We certainly do not need details down to the hours of absence of people. Therefore I suggest some improvements. In summary:

-The Time column seems irrelevant. Dates should be sufficient.
-I am not sure about the purpose of the Meeting column. Maybe this needs to be clarified, or the column needs to be renamed.
- We need a column for the id of the person (FAS username, real name?) who is absent. Currently, we have to click through each entry to find out whether a sought person is in vacation.
- Multi line entries get mixed up. Not clear which line belong the which entry. This needs clarification.
- When I click on the > link next to "July 2014" on the upper left of the page it takes me to a page which is extremely confusing. Maybe some explanation is needed about the purpose of that page.

Thanks,
Orcan

Hi Orcan. This application was made by Fedora contributors primarily for Fedora The project's page is at https://fedorahosted.org/fedocal/ and you can see the source at https://git.fedorahosted.org/git/fedocal.git

I think you're right in that vacations weren't the primary initial design focus.

To be honest, I do not feel like tweaking fedocal just for the vacation calendar.

fedocal is a calendar application providing multiple calendars including the vacation one.

As for the > button at the top right, it brings you to the calendar (week) view instead of the list you are referring in [1].

I will look into adding a small separation between the entries, likely a small border to mark better the limit between the entries.

Note: the list entries is also being worked on in #129

Hi pingou, I understand. Should we perhaps assume that the vacation page out of scope for fedocal and fall back to wiki?

There are some advantages of storing the vacation in fedocal, including: https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/vacation

That is cool! :)
At the same time, I feel the urge to understand the contents of the vacation page with minimal effort.

This looks better. Can you teach me how to switch to the list view on the vacation page?

https://apps.fedoraproject.org/calendar/list/vacation/

This link is already the list view, as opposed to the calendar view that is https://apps.fedoraproject.org/calendar/vacation/ (the switch can be made by the shortcut buttons on the bottom right, or via the menu)

Note: production does not run fedocal 0.10 yet, so you will not see the new layout there yet.

Note that Johan Cwiklinski (trasher) fix the overlap in https://github.com/fedora-infra/fedocal/pull/149
