#714 Requesting logo design for Fedora Easyfix
Opened 3 years ago by t0xic0der. Modified 3 years ago

The suggested format for the logo design is attached below in the comments.

I really have no idea about how the icon should be - so I think we might just have the creative freedom here to decide (or maybe I will consult @pingou). Easyfix is a site which houses a collection of well-documented and self-contained issues for beginners to get started with contributing. Please do let me know if this description helps you to hitch up an icon.

Any updates to this ticket would be really helpful.

Please feel free to ask if there are questions/doubts regarding the logo.

Hello @t0xic0der, I can try making a new logo for the Easyfix site. Can I?

Yes @harshmangal. Please go ahead and design a logo. I cannot quite assign you to this ticket because I do not belong to the design team.

cc @duffy @riecatnor Could you help us with that? Thanks.

@t0xic0der ,The new logo should be in format as the file above with replacing "app name" to the "easyfix"?

I have assigned this ticket to @harshmangal

I like the logo you have designed, although I am not sure that the Fedora wordmark is in the proper color, although I could be wrong.

@riecatnor @duffy @mleonova thoughts?

yes please @nb , I am eagerly waiting for the suggestion from the community!

@t0xic0der #294172 is this a link to something? I didn't get that.

#294172 is the Fedora Blue variant that I use in Syngrafias. You can use that once you get a +1 from @nb and other design folks.

@nasirhm, @t0xic0der should I create a pull request for this issue now?

@nasirhm, @t0xic0der should I create a pull request for this issue now?

Sure, please go ahead, this way the design team will be able to provide the review on the PR.

Hi @harshmangal ! Thank you for your submission. I like the wrench and the gear.
However, the d in your logo doesn't look quite right, would you mind going back to the original font?
Here's the file https://pagure.io/design/issue/raw/files/8d204977d2f8d78da6720f9b06c21166e7c6264e5da1bd54f809e1c09cdd7bff-logo.svg

(unless I'm missing something here, in which case please correct me)

Thanks!

@nasirhm, @t0xic0der should I create a pull request for this issue now?

I would suggest waiting as the experience modernizing PR for easyfix is already in review here https://pagure.io/fedora-gather-easyfix/pull-request/9.

However, the d in your logo doesn't look quite right, would you mind going back to the original font?

d is inclined more towards e and farther from o right? That's what I observed here.

@t0xic0der @harshmangal so I put the template and the resulting logo together next to each other and you can see a couple differences:

easyfix-logo-compare.png

@harshmangal these are all important little changes we need to make before pushing the logo. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have.

@harshmangal Thanks for your work! As @mleonova has pointed out, we do have specific requirements around the usage of the Fedora trademark, you can see the guidelines at the link she pointed you to. I apologize - this stuff isn't super obvious, so it's a good idea to stick to tickets that have the green "triaged" tag on them to start so you can be sure it's been looked at by folks familiar with the guidelines and with experience working on fedora assets so we can point out any trickiness like this in the ticket before you start. (And there was no way for you to know this - I am looking at updating the design team join page to point this out!)

We have a new template for Fedora applications as we are slowly rolling out the new logo. Here is the logo using that template:

Here it is clean / transparent background:

I have an alternate layout that allows for a custom logo that we're exploring in https://pagure.io/design/issue/725#comment-717064 - @harshmangal did you create that mark or is it from an icon library? I think it's ok to explore potential custom icons for this usage, but it's probably better to start with sketches and discussion of the concept and iterate that way if it makes sense. I want to avoid off-the-shelf icons in our logo assets so we don't have any complications.

Hope this makes sense, let me know if you have any questions!

To https://pagure.io/design/issue/714#comment-717524, thank you for considering updating the design team page with clearly reflecting the guidelines that are to be followed when working with the Fedora logo and/or the general ticket workflow as this would help avoid scenarios like that of https://pagure.io/design/issue/731, where a lot of discussions went by and designs were proposed before the ticket even had the triaged label.

Thanks for your proposed designs. Could you please provide me with a rendition that can be used on a top navbar (like that of the redesigned Easyfix site that you have seen) to replace the Fedora logo there? The navbar is expected to occupy somewhere around 80-120px on my 1080p display.

@t0xic0der well sure but to be fair ticket 731 was opened on sunday so that was 3 days of activity (our triage happens every other week, which was in this repos readme), and anyone working w the logo artwork is advised of the logo guidelines because they must request it via the logo queue. We cant control who downloads it thru unofficial means. but yeh i did update the repo readme accordingly.

this one i posted above is what you should use on the top navbar (you may need to scale it down)

Could you please provide me with a transparent background variant of it?

Thanks.

Hi @t0xic0der take a look at the two comments I made above, I provided a link to the transparent background version in both. Here it is again:

Let me know if I'm missing something or if you can't see the link directly above this text?

Hi @duffy, I am able to see the links due to which I was able to quote that link in my comment at https://pagure.io/design/issue/714#comment-717596 right?

The thing is, the preview in Firefox is showing up like this - due to which I concluded that the provided link might not be the one with the transparent PNG. Let me know if I am mistaken.

@t0xic0der Yep that is indeed a transparent image. Please download it and assess in a local image viewer.

@duffy, thanks - I saw it in the local viewer and it is a transparent image.

I'd let you know if any more changes are needed after I try this out on the navbar.

Let's keep this ticket open for now, shall we?

Hey @duffy, we would want to reset the assignee metadata from @harshmangal and have it assigned to you for now, to avoid confusion because we are proceeding with the proposals made by you. :-)

Thanks.
