#71 FUDCon ad for FSOSS program
Closed: Fixed None Opened 14 years ago by mchua.

FSOSS is an open source conference that will be held at Seneca College slightly one month prior to when Seneca hosts FUDCon. They have ad space for us, and we should use it.

From Chris Tyler:

I've reserved space in the FSOSS program for a half-page ad for FUDCon.
If you're interested in this, and assuming that the event won't be fully
booked by FSOSS (Oct 30), could you have someone create a B&W ad that
will fit in a 8" (wide) x 5" (high) space and mail the file to me?

Mo did this for FUDCon Boston 2009:

http://fedorapeople.org/groups/designteam/FUDcon/FUDcon%20Boston%202009/MIT%20Newspaper%20Ad/

I think anyone could bring this up in Inkscape, tweak it a bit, and be ready to go.

Oh hey, that's not so bad. Doing this right now; will upload in a moment (I lack some fonts, so someone from Design - Mo? - will have to do the final convert-to-path stuff and/or give me said fonts).

I believe the fonts are MgOpen-Modata, found packaged in the Fedora repositories. (All free all the time, bay-bee!)

You got it Paul, it's all MgOpen Modata. The Fedora package for it is mgopen-modata-fonts. And that's right, all free all the time, completely pragmatic.

Can haz fonts - thanks!

Thar she goes. All done now. Chris, I used the rooms listed on the wiki and took the 10am start time for everything, and guessed 5-6pm end times (like Boston's FUDCon); let me know if any of this info needs to be changed.

Still closed. Just noting that we updated the date info on those two files.

Oops, forgot the note to tell mchua to make a pdf with the pub 4 per pages ;)

I've moved them to the design team's webspace, http://fedorapeople.org/groups/designteam/FUDcon/FUDcon%20Toronto%202009/ - you'll find all the files there now.

Sorry! - Last minute request: it looks like we're going to use a 17" x 5.5" double-sided quick-reference format for the program, folded to 4.25 x 5.5". It's also going to be full colour. Could this be resized to 4.25" (tall) x 5.5" (wide) and converted to colour? And I really hate to ask ... could this be done quickly? The programs are going to print on Monday Oct 26. (Many, many thanks!)

Starting to narrow it down, http://mchua.fedorapeople.org/sketches/fudcon-toronto-ad-color-10.svg and http://mchua.fedorapeople.org/sketches/fudcon-toronto-ad-color-9.svg are the two format choices right now.

Many thanks to nicubunu, tw2113, brejc8, and biertie for tweaks, feedback, and "why did I wake up at 5am (in my timezone)" companionship.

Done. http://mchua.fedorapeople.org/sketches/fudcon-toronto-ad-color-11.svg

I'm going to bed, I'll move these things to the design webspace... on the bus back from FUDCon if not before.

Oh. One last thing. You will need to install the proper fonts (package name: mgopen-modata-fonts) to view the svg. Or you can look at http://mchua.fedorapeople.org/sketches/fudcon-toronto-ad-color-11.pdf instead.

Closing ticket.

...although if anybody else would like to do any more in the next hour or two, there's certainly the opportunity.

{{{
(in #fedora-design)
11:14:29 < brejc8> is that "4.25" (tall) x 5.5" (wide)" ?
11:16:09 < brejc8> mchua: do you have the widths and heights the right way
round?
11:17:43 < mchua> brejc8: ...ARGH

(over in #fudcon-planning)
11:19:12 < mchua> ctyler: um... can you print it sideways?
11:19:22 * mchua should probably not inkscape in the wee hours of the morning
11:19:41 < ctyler> mchua: we could, but it might look... sideways
11:20:01 < mchua> ctyler: "adds visual interest"?
11:20:08 * ctyler feels really bad about the last minute changes
11:20:44 * mchua could add "why is this ad sideways? come to FUDCon Toronto
and ask Chris Tyler to find out!"
}}}

Chris notes the final file is needed by noon EDT (approx 4.5 hours from now).
