The logo used in Telegram channel of Fedora Join SIG is simple fedora logo and we want to change the design to make it more inclusive and specific to Fedora Join SIG. Similar designs for inspiration #663.
The ideal shape of the logo should be round, to avoid cropping any part of the image.

This is my first logo design concept. Very basic, I know. I took inspiration from the pandas at https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora-join/ . While coming with some more logo ideas, I'll like to know what you guys think :) I'll come up with more rounded designs. @riecatnor <img alt="fedora-sig-logo.png" src="/design/issue/raw/files/9f11ed53c3f1044f974a07bcbdbd4e27403faae64f6df07dfd9e46cc876063d8-fedora-sig-logo.png" />

@riecatnor How is this for the SIG logo design concept.

Hello @transcendence09 Just to add a little bit of context and ideas. The idea (at least my idea) was to transform the banner you can see in the issue #663 to a round logo (or whatever, I simply think that a logo should be a circle). The logo should contain something related to the SIG goal: welcome the community newcomers. Thank you for your efforts!
Okay @alciregi I think i understand the context a bit now. Thanks.....i Actually had a design concept that was circular. Will do that and drop it here soon.
Please follow the logo usage guidelines https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Logo @bt0dotninja I would like to ask- What exactly did you notice in the design that was off from the guideline. I looked at the guidelines and used the approved color palette and I used multiple colors because you used the infinity design logo and not the word design logo ??
@transcendence09 , I like the idea @alciregi has.... try remixing the banner. Remember to keep it simple, they want to show this on Telegram, and the bubbles are small :)
Hi @bt0dotninja you are indeed right, though we have seen that making some specific graphics for groups (think NeuroFedora) is a really fun way to help grow the identity of the SIGs. It is more unofficial, and we could use it for marketing materials/stickers maybe? We can make an "official" logo shown in the guidelines additionally if that is something the Join SIG would find useful.
Please follow the logo usage guidelines https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Logo

@transcendence09 I'm in no place to give any advice, but I just want to say that when creating logos, it's best to use as few elements and colors as possible. And just because its a logo for Fedora doesn't mean you should include the exact Fedora logo. It'll be much better to use elements of the logo such as the infinity sign or the lopsided circle. I'm particularly inspired by the Fudcon logo (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Logo) and how it's both different and similar to Fedora logo. To add, note that the logo will be used on a Telegram profile picture, so it should be visible is small sizes. Scale it down and see if you can make out the several elements when it's much smaller. Just my 2 cents though :D Once again, I'm not qualified enough or in the position to give any advice :)
@riecatnor @nasirhm @alishapapun
I've come up with new concepts and modified the previous concept.
a) I tried one color, just to see how it'll look. I prefer this, by the way :)
<img alt="sig-logo2.png" src="/design/issue/raw/files/ba1c0bd95c43a6858cdf2211cea83146108015e5565319b848de34a89250c6e2-sig-logo2.png" /> <img alt="sig-logo2.svg" src="/design/issue/raw/files/562b0160861ab98a7b1d1a212a0e3e385148f50b6c41a60163e84f40d7170352-sig-logo2.svg" />
b) I tried to think a bit more abstract. This concept features four lop-sided circles, meant to represent a panda's four paws (these paws are probably waving, welcoming SIG community newcomers.
<img alt="sig-logo1.png" src="/design/issue/raw/files/cc68fbccc00c446bb5f3b95477ce6324a9d97672f9d0dfb988725aee645b3d9f-sig-logo1.png" /> <img alt="sig-logo1.svg" src="/design/issue/raw/files/3eb3f116b3287f34420cfd2135795aec487e555cfcc1c54937294c3ba83f1ff6-sig-logo1.svg" />
c) This concept is inspired by the Fedora infinity sign
<img alt="sig-logo3.svg" src="/design/issue/raw/files/6dc11d4d579c5c67a08fb4b631ee15cb0dba1bbaf328d64c57580b21ca8a73b1-sig-logo3.svg" /> <img alt="sig-logo3.png" src="/design/issue/raw/files/930ab9aabde56871fb256e190f6889aeb9237a6478e214f1a2ad19c4473b4199-sig-logo3.png" />
d) Another version of concept (c)
<img alt="sig-logo4.png" src="/design/issue/raw/files/25fc3e8e0d88b6edbbad964d65b4a9989cd15fedce8d237301fd875f6d193bec-sig-logo4.png" /> <img alt="sig-logo4.svg" src="/design/issue/raw/files/8ff0fa452841358e7329a7083a6bf1de69e9e0e1ee9ada75dc59a9ceab6ab4ec-sig-logo4.svg" />
@viv The first one looks great, the mouth of the panda seems a bit different, It would be great if you can fix it.
Hi @riecatnor I made some changes, do critic them and tell me what you think.
Concepts incorporated into this design:
The welcome logo with the panda head symbolizes: the panda as a new prospective contributor(s) coming in.
The other welcome logos is represented with a sunburst: unveiling the fedora open source platform (infinity logo). The pandas symbolizes existing contributors welcoming new contributor(s).

welcome Samra, have you joined the mailing list and the fedora design group chat on telegram? If you have not, you should. cheers. Its nice to have you join us
there are a few guidelines you have to follow before making contributions also, Maybe you should talk to Person in charge of assigning outreachy applicants to their various works. So you make the most of your contribution. Thanks
Hi everyone, @transcendence09 @viv @samra thanks for your work on this issue. I am finding these designs to be problematic. There are guidelines in which you can use the Fedora logo, please familiarize yourself: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Logo/UsageGuidelines That being said, I don't think this actually needs a Fedora logo in the design.
Let's take a closer look at what is being requested: To take this design (https://pagure.io/design/issue/raw/files/78b81938f4ec1fcede57929a325d23de5344a777f13c02817f1c2740732aee57-banner.png) and takes pieces to create a design for Telegram profile picture. From this we can look at the constraints of this design: - this is a public channel, and the Join SIG represents Fedora. We want to make sure the artwork follows the guidelines and standards of Fedora design. - SIG stands for: Special Interest Group, and it is attached to many groups similar to this one. This makes this text optional. - It will be viewed at small sizes, so it should be extremely simple - Because of the small size, it might be advisable to skip text entirely - We have artwork already we have been asked to reuse. Generally we don't want to warp or skew artwork. Cropping, moving around the composition, or adding/removing elements is okay.
@viv I find your latest upload to be promising. Since this will be viewed as a circle, can you try to expand the design to something more? Maybe a dd in a background color, you could borrow the starburst from the banner for that.
I would ask anyone working on this ticket to come up with another design, (@viv included), based on the detailed constraints I listed above. Thanks!

@viv the first one is really cute, and fits the constraints perfectly! The second one, I'd say make the panda head just a little bit smaller :)

@transcendence09 I like the last one you posted, maybe make some adjustment to the pandas on the right, they are directly overlapping each other. If you space one closer to the edge of the circle and the other a bit closer to the dark blue panda, you will create some visual interest. Also I see the strokes are varying on the pandas, not sure what happened there.
I think we need some input from the Join SIG at this point. @alciregi @alishapapun we look forward to feedback :)

Hello @alciregi @riecatnor @alishapapun What do you guys think?? Should i make any corrections?? Thank you
I like the correction-sig-logo4.png . The colors align more with the shades of Fedora. Even I like the group-sig.png
that is my favorite too, more clean and clear
Regards.,
I agree with @alishapapun and @hhlp @riecatnor, what do you think about the fedora logo or some sentence in the free space on top of the pandas? Isn't it a bit "empty" there?
Personally I still lean towards logo sig-logo-5 by @viv - the reason I like it is: - simple - easy to "read" - nice contrast, panda is in the front, background is colorful, but not overwhelming - nice to see at a small size
I have an idea! We can merge these two designs, keep the color scheme from @viv and add in another panda or two from @transcendence09. I am not against text, though I think we need a version with and without. I would add in "Fedora JOIN" or maybe just "JOIN", I think we can leave off SIG. Thoughts??
I also want to clarify, this is for the Telegram profile picture, and potentially some stickers/swag. I am not approving these as an official logo for the Join SIG. I think we can develop one though if the team wants it! (can be developed from the same bunch of graphics too)
@riecatnor +1 for merging the two designs, Both the designs suit the JOIN SiG, Merging them would be great.
For "Fedora JOIN" and "JOIN", @ankursinha @alishapapun , Kindly share your thoughts.
.
@riecatnor @ankursinha @alishapapun Thank you for your review. @riecatnor I didn't use @viv exact background color but the color I used is still within the fedora color palette according to the guidelines.
I also included texts in my previous designs but you suggested texts be left out completely because of the telegram profile picture size.
With all these been said, I'm going to work on a design consisting of elements from the 2 designs. I will do a design with each of the texts mentioned and another without text.
I would also like to state that I'm loving the experience, and criticism from you all and I hope to come onboard.
@riecatnor @ankursinha @alishapapun Here is a design i made based on the feedback, i edited the colors to match @viv background and kept the pandas, this has the Join in both semibold and bolder fonts <img alt="join-logo-design-bold-large.png" src="/design/issue/raw/files/f4329d278a3696dde1c92d8c26a2b7aa379b7ee8d017afd2e8155cfcc5e20cfd-join-logo-design-bold-large.png" /><img alt="Join-group-logo-design-semibold.png" src="/design/issue/raw/files/3ad44340351d5120d7cecd8df6c9dc05b44bda0a9d1adef66e587d01c1e20230-Join-group-logo-design-semibold.png" />
@alciregi @riecatnor @alishapapun here is the logo design without text. I have tested them also on the telegram to aviod cropping any part of the image, so it comes out circular as instructed <img alt="group-3pandas.png" src="/design/issue/raw/files/2d53ed41a0351a61fcd702aaf6a0b3485251e16acb47bc42d72047b68f124034-group-3pandas.png" /><img alt="Group-logo-2pandas.png" src="/design/issue/raw/files/8b091553e36ff6d93acee79644554c380557b696277751b18af98a9fa60b7e6a-Group-logo-2pandas.png" />
Here is the Join fedora logo design, though the text(montserrat) comes out too small on telegram. But give your opinion on the designs below. the fedora join fonts used were, semi-bold, bold, and one with a border color.

the latest ones are very good. I can't decide if the text is required. The logo will be used in the channel, so it's obvious enough that it's for the Fedora Join SIG.
@transcendence09 : any chance you could test the versions with and without the text on a telegram account to see how it looks? Maybe screenshots would help everyone see how they look?
@viv : what do you think too? (you folks know design a lot better than most of us at the join sig :))

@riecatnor @alishapapun @alciregi here are the telegram tested icons , its a bit low quality because it was cropped to zoom the image. What are your thoughts.

@ankursinha I personally think that the logo will be better with just one panda and no text. This may look simple, but a single smiling/waving panda communicates the concept of join SIG well. I admit I have a strong preference for simple/minimalistic logos, so there's that :D
@riecatnor @ankursinha @bt0dotninja @alciregi I created some options with text, using a single panda. I haven't tried yet, but I assume if I use several pandas, it will look too crowded. If anyone likes these layouts and will like to see them with several pandas, let me know :D

Hello guys! As much as I appreciate all the criticism and changes implemented. I would like @riecatnor to please approve my work based on the latest suggestions she requested so I can start writing my final application for my contributions before the deadline.
I believe when I'm chosen as an intern. I can edit and make any changes you request. Thanks
Note: @riecatnor I'm a bit confused is @viv assigned to this task? I thought there was a restriction on two applicants doing the same task without reaching out to me (the assignee).
+1
I think the latest design that @transcendence09 works very well. It combines the features we've been looking at, with suggestions from @viv and feedback from everyone. As the screenshots show, the text may not be visible enough to have much value. Additionally, the logo will almost always be accompanied by the channel title in Telegram anyway, so that sort of makes adding text to the logo redundant.
I'm happy for that to be used in the join sig channel immediately. @riecatnor : we wait your approval and then we can set this up. @transcendence09 : I'll give you admin access to the channel now so that you can update the logo.
Thanks everyone! You'll all get cookies from me on the IRC, and when we meet, I owe you all a beer/coffee/drink of your choice!

Thanks. Looking forward to the beer :)
I like @viv's original one I indicated with the one panda and the latest from @transcendence09 that has 4 pandas and no text. I would be happy with either of those. JOIN is welcome to use either :)
Thanks @riecatnor !
We'll be able to use them both, we always need artwork! Just to confirm these are the two we're using:
We'll add them to the Fedora Join SIG repo so they can be used by team members.
I my liking spree, I liked my own comment, and now I can't figure out how to unlike it
Available?
