#636 getfedora.org is lacking an obvious download button
Closed: Fixed 4 years ago by whot. Opened 4 years ago by whot.

phenomenon

Every so-often, I need a fedora image. But when I go to getfedora.org, there is no obvious "Download Fedora" button. There are links at the very end in small writing, but given the name of the website, this should be more obvious.

After moving the mouse around, I find that the Workstation and Server banners reveal a "Download Now" on mouseover. That's a bit confusing, for two reasons:

  • nothing visible hints that those two banners are clickable. The Choose Freedom banner isn't. The four freedoms look much more like buttons and aren't clickable.
  • if you're just scrolling the page with a mouse wheel, there is no guarantee that the cursor lands inside those banners, so you may scroll up/down the page for a while before it becomes visible.

recommendation

I'm going to argue that 99% of the users visit the website to well, get Fedora :) So it should be immediately obvious where to click to actually download it.

This literally happens to me every time I need to grab an image, it's always a 3s thought process of "where did I have to click again?". For someone completely new that's less than ideal.

@whot we have a redesign pending, but didn't have it ready in time for F30. You can see the work-in-progress here:

The main mockup for the front page is here:
