#623 T-Shirts and 8x11 Placards for Fedora 15th Aniversary
Closed: Fixed 5 years ago by duffy. Opened 5 years ago by steelaworkn.

phenomenon

I am an Ambassador up in the Greater Seattle Area. I have an annual event coming up in April (LinuxFest Northwest 2019). The event's main theme is the history of Open Source and Linux. As the event is focused on history, a celebrating 15 years of Fedora seems ideal.

recommendation

Can we work on a design embracing the past 15 years and looking towards the future for Table-Top 8x11 Placards/Posters?

@steelaworkn

This sounds like a reasonable idea. I have some questions:

What are your deadlines? If you want something produced for SCALE you're probably going to need to have a design ready for production 3-4 weeks ahead of time, so about the 1st or 2nd week of February, does that seem about right?

Do you have a vendor and budget in mind? How many shirts are you thinking of producing? This helps determine different specifications for the artwork, eg how many colors / which printing process / how complex the linework can be.

let him open the mindshare ticket first

@gnokii oh that's a good idea. @steelaowrkn have you contacted mindshare yet to see what kind of budget they can offer? that would definitely help us figure out what's possible on the design side.

@steelaworkn hey just a quick ping on this? it looks like my tag didn't work last comment.

I'll do a Mindshare ticket this evening. I'll also contact the Ambassadors =
doing the Scale event and see what they would like. Scale is in the 1st or =
2nd week of March. I'm not sure of a vendor. We could choose one out West h=
ere if the price is right.

Hi @steelaworkn I see https://pagure.io/mindshare/issue/84 but I'm not sure if it's the right ticket? I don't see a t-shirt budget? Can you advise?

Mindshare decided not to approve my t-shirt request. One of the reasons was=
they wanted to wait for the new Fedora logo to come out. The other big one=
was they have a hard time visualising justification for the "t-shirts for =
events" concept.

@steelaworkn ah ok, sorry to hear that. You'd still like a design that you could use for placards though right? Are you thinking about getting some of those clear plastic stands they sell at staples and sliding a 8.5" x 11" print out in?

Yes I would. And yes, exactly. I actually have a few of those stands.

OK cool I'm going to modify the ticket accordingly.

Thanks.

@duffy Hey! I'd be happy to work on this ticket. Would you please give me more details on what has to be designed exactly?

Hi @duffy @steelaworkn what should be written on the poster? Also @steelaworkn do you have any ideas for the design (specific requirements, colours and such) that you would like?

Something in relation to Fedora's 15 year anniversary. A collage of all Fedora is. I think Fedora is people. And out of the people, from all over the word, and the Linux Foundation, and Red Hat, comes our Fedora. As far as putting that to paper, I'm not too good at that.

@duffy Hey! I tried my hands on the placard design.
I didn't know what to put for the background, so I used the Flock '18 group photo, which also served the purpose of including people!
I will happy to work on the iterations based on feedback and the need. Excited to be working on this, please do let me know your inputs!

@duffy Hey, sorry I didn't realize someone was already working on it!
I'll check the guidelines for future usage :) Let me know if there is something else I can work with. Happy to help :)

Hi, @terezahl doesn't have time to work on this ticket, and because time is short I put this together. @steelaworkn does this work for you? Is there any specific text or messaging you'd like to go with the illustration?

It's not quite what I was thinking of. Maybe a collage of all the past masc=
ots celebrating 15 years.

@steelaworkn What do you mean by past mascots celebrating 15 years?

Sorry. For some reason I thought every release had mascot like Beefy etc.

You know what? As I'm looking at the Birthday Panda, I'm acutally liking it. I wonder if I can put that on a tablecloth as well as on the 8x11 placards.

please NO panda, yes pandas are cute but also a symbol for China. China achieved in just a few years to become totally unwelcome in Cambodia and the can gift as many buses for the public transport as they want. So using something what stands for them might have an negative impact here.

Actually, I really experienced why they hate them now. I was in December in Siem Reap in a hotel, which is entirely build for them and russian tourists, this hotel group has another hotel where they put the american and other european tourists in and I know now why. Just read some reports of westerners flying with chinese airlines or how chinese behave on other airlines, you might become an idea.

@gnokii - a week before the event isn't really a great time to introduce new requirements. This panda is the same one we use across probably close to 100 Fedora Badges and we certainly don't have the resources to redesign all of those any time soon.

@steelaworkn if you're OK with the Panda design that is great. Do you have additional text you would like on a poster? I can format it into an 8.5" x 11" PDF so it should be easy for you to print out but I will need any additional text / content you would like on the flyer / sign to be able to do that.

I would advise against doing a tablecloth as custom table cloths are actually quite expensive, and as this is an illustration centered around a point of time (15 year anniversary) it will be out of date quickly so the investment is likely not worth it.

Ok. No panda. I'm flexible. But also, no Beefy. I have a hard time explaini=
ng that every time. But, I'm open for suggested replacements.

Hi @steelaworkn see PDF below, you should be able to print that out and use it for your sign without issue on US Letter / 8.5" x 11" paper. I'm going to close this ticket as fixed, but please feel free to comment and we can reopen if there are any other issues etc.
